Annual Spelling Bee

The Annual Spelling Bee, sponsored by the Rotary Club of San Juan Island, will be held on Thursday, March 14th at 3:30 PM at the San Juan Community Theatre.

Spellers from Friday Harbor Elementary, Friday Harbor Middle School, Stillpoint School,  and Paideia Classical School will participate.  Janice Peterson will be pronouncer, Mike Close will be emcee, Carol Linde and Mary Sliger will be judges, all are Rotary members. 

The event is a great opportunity to showcase our youth and to give to the education community.  Medallions are given to each participant.  Trophies are provided for first and second place finishers.  A cash award of $100 is given to the winning speller as well as $200 to the class and $300 to the school of the winner.  The second place finisher will receive $75 with $150 going to the class and $175 to the school.

Doors will open at 3:00 PM at the theatre for the Spelling Bee.  The Bee will start at 3:30.  Rotary members are encouraged to attend.
