North Delta Rotary Club to increase Bursaries to five (5) of Delta’s High Schools and Delta Community College for the trades.

According to B.C.’s Labour Market Outlook, a variety of industries are expected to have thousands of job openings in the skilled trades over the coming years. Many of these occupations may require on-the-job training and in-class training as a pre-requisite, and offer excellent earning potential.

During its latest directors meeting, the North Delta Rotary Club approved $15,300 in bursaries for graduates of the five North Delta secondary schools and adult graduates Delta Community College. When these bursaries are added to the Club’s contributions to community groups, the Club gave a total of $37,300 to the community during the first three months of 2021.

The new bursaries are different in their focus on students committed to pursuing careers in the trades. Preference will be given to applicants who are committed to careers in the trades as evidenced by proof of acceptance into a full-time trades program at a registered B.C. post-secondary institution. Evidence of community service and demonstrated financial need will also be considered when selecting the successful awards recipients.

“We are deeply grateful for the funding provided by the Community Gaming Grant Program. Without this annual grant, the Club would be unable to fund its annual bursaries and the current level of grants to community organizations. We thank the program staff for the help they provide each year”. One part of the Community Gaming Grant Program are the grants provided to eligible service clubs, who in turn, supply small amounts of funding to community groups and not-for-profit societies.
