On May 8th, 2018, the Rotary Club of Wahpeton Breckenridge hosted the winners of the 4-way essay test.  All high school students in Richland County were invited to participate in this program. Our two winners come from Richland 44 High School:  Kari Ann Sahl and Blake Loomis. The winners are shown with their English teacher, Christy Stenseth.
The Rotary Club of Wahpeton-Breckenridge celebrates the Fall 2017 Rotary 4-Way Essay Test winners in the regularly scheduled meeting on May 8th, 2018.  The students were invited to have lunch with our club, and afterwards each student read their winning essay to the group.  All high school students in Richland county are invited to participate in the program, our club selects the  best essays based on criteria including the use of the Rotary 4-Way Test.  The 4-Way Test is a tool used by Rotarians worldwide in judging the merit of their thoughts, actions, and words.  If the following can be answered positively of what we think, say, or do, it is thought to be a worthy enterprise:
  1.  Is it the truth?
  2.  Is it fair to all concerned?
  3.  Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
  4.  Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
Winners of the 4-Way Essay Test are awarded a cash prize at the local level.  Their essays, then, are automatically submitted to the district for the next stage of competition.  Each stage of the program offers a cash prize.  The 2017 essay winners pictured below and their winning submissions are as follows:
  1.  Kari Ann Sahl - 1st place (left) - "Human Euthanasia"
  2.  Blake Loomis - 2nd place (right) - Professional Athletes Kneeling during the National Anthem"
