President Craig James welcomed Rotarians and guests to the Rotary Club of Dalkeith, “the Home of Rotary District 9455”.
President Craig welcomed John Thornton and asked members and guests to sing the anthem. John gave a starter note and most members followed it.
President Craig reminded members that this meeting would be a Club Forum.
The purpose of a Club Assembly is to:
· Discuss project ideas;
· Hold a free and frank discussion in open forum about what members like about the club and what they would like to change;
· Get input and build consensus on goals and action plans;
· Increase participation in Rotary and Foundation programs.

Peter Webb introduced Monica Kaur who was attending as an observer.
David Ellis introduced Paul Napper who will shortly be inducted as a member.

Announcements:
Past President Peter Panek announced a proposed club trip to Bali in July for a cost of $3,500 per couple plus airfares to visit charities the Club presently supports and charities it may choose to support in the future (perhaps an orphanage). It will include a donation (between $1,000-$1,500) to the charities (tax deductible) and 7 nights in a 5 star hotel in Bali.
Peter will send around a prospectus.
John Lindquist announced the Boat tie-up would not be held this year because of difficulties sourcing boats, many of which are engaged in a Rottnest Swim the previous day.
Ray House announced that the Sisters’ Place in Fremantle is changing its format and will be providing semi-permanent accommodation. Ray will try to keep members informed as information comes available.

Committee Reports and Announcements:
Charitable Trust: (Russell Hawkins): Addressed the forum later.
Club Secretary’s Report (Trevor Gorey): no report.
Club Treasurer’s Report (Anthony McGrath): Members to please make payments for International Dinner to club account and Corsini Collection to Project Account.
District Conference 2018 Report: Anthony urged members to book for next year’s District Conference. Anthony was in Geraldton last week following up on catering, venues and he did a radio interview while there. About 20 Dalkeith members are booked for the conference.

Club Service: (John Bolto/John Murdoch): Footy tipping underway and the club trialled a new payment tablet, which seems to work well.
Community Service: (David Miller/Steve Halbert): Cans for Christmas will be 9th December this year. Good chance West Perth Club will join the party this year.
Golf Day on 23rd March still has places available.
Vocational Service: (Peter Marfleet/Kevin Jackson): 43 booked for Corsini with 6 on the waitlist. Chis Cole reminded members to pay, otherwise, the place may go to a wait list member. There are still opportunities for the Carrolup Collection on Sunday 15th April 2 pm … John Curtin Art Gallery.

A guided viewing of the Carrolup Collection and a sumptuous afternoon tea (complimentary) with Curator Chris Malcolm. There will also be a visit to the Aboriginal Studies building to look at the spectacular mosaic floor.
Foundation and International Service: (Ken Ilett/Gary Dienhoff): Ken announced he is in the final stages of submitting the application for the Global Grant for the JFF bus.
Public Relations: (Peter Robertson/Albert Deda): Richard Sudlow advised an order has been placed with local businesswoman Kelly Moss for 2000 shopping bags which will be available by the end of April. A small quantity may be airfreighted to Perth in time for the District Conference if the cost is not too excessive.
Membership: (David Ellis/David Smith): David reported his attendance at the District Zone meeting last Thursday … David gave some sobering details of membership dwindling in some other clubs that were contrasted starkly by Dalkeith’s growth – he mused that RCD might be able to assist other Clubs by imparting its recruitment experience.

There was celebration of birthdays, anniversaries, the wine table, departure tax, arrivals tax, club service and wedding anniversaries. Chris Cole and David Miller celebrated the mystery of their tee shirt size, Anthony McGrath 42 Stableford points, John Bolto for introducing technology beyond members competence, Bob Davis for more sailing trophies and Anthony McGrath (again) for being a radio star … Alan Jones eat your heart out! Everybody celebrated International Day of Women and Girls in Science (Feb 11).
Finally, Sergeant Peter drew members’ attention to the Soleman Teddy Bears Picnic on 11th February at Wireless Park.
Club Forum.
At the request of President Craig, Russell Hawkins as Chair of the Charitable Trust outlined the history of the trust, starting with Michael Denny bringing the idea from the St Georges Terrace Rotary Club when he and Michael joined Dalkeith.
The idea is for the Rotary Club of Dalkeith to create funds for distribution from donations of members and former members (and the community) who may not be able to contribute hands-on work in the community any longer.
The Vice Chairman of the Charitable Trust is always the President of the Rotary Club of Dalkeith and that is recognition of the connection between the club and the trust.
The trust is conservatively invested and the investments and strategy are reviewed by David Kernot of Bell Potter at the request of the Trust committee on a bi-annual basis.
In the past year, the Trust distributed $25k to the community, in addition to funds that it distributed specifically for the club, of about $40k.
President Craig asked if any members had other issues they wished to raise as part of the Assembly and there were none.
