President David welcomed members, and guests to the club meeting this evening; with a special welcome for Guest speakers Soo Yin Ooi and Anne Bettink from the Perth Wellness Centre who will be addressing the topic: Office Ergonomics and Wellness.
President David invited members and guests to sing the anthem.

There should be 29 members present according to acceptances, with 30 apologies and 1 leave of absence. Several members are doing makeups at Mt Lawley to welcome the North America Rotary Friendship Exchange group who are visiting Perth.

Question: How many season wins by Eagles and Dockers?
Answer: Eagles 16 wins and 6 losses … Dockers 4 wins and 18 losses.
Answered By: Ken Ilett who made no attempt to keep a straight face and noted that the Eagles wins could not keep up with the Dockers losses.
FAMILY AND FRIENDS:
Anthony McGrath described his son Ben’s graduation from RAAF Pearce last weekend as Dux of the course and the family pride in Ben topping the navigation component of the course, given his grandfather was a Lancaster bomber navigator.
John Bolto advised members that Tom Langley is back in a full neck-brace following his recent check‑up. Nevertheless, he is in good spirits and getting around slowly.

COMMITTEE REPORTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Charitable Trust: (Russell Hawkins): Apology. President David announced the Trust Board is meeting on Tuesday. Russell also has new wine available and it is a fine drop.
Club Secretary’s Report (Craig James): Returned from Honkers having attended a make‑up at the Rotary Club of Hong Kong South, where he was made to feel like a friend.
Club Treasurer’s Report (Anthony McGrath): Anthony announced that subscriptions were coming in strongly and e-mails would be sent to any outstanding at the end of August.
President David reminded members that Anthony is seeking gold sponsors for the Cottesloe Gold Day in November this year.

Special Report by Ross Griffin on Esther
Ross Griffin gave an update on the Esther Foundation progress commencing with a brief history of the Dalkeith RC involvement including the turning point” moment when the Ladies Morning Tea was held several years ago.
The Foundation now has a base at St Emilie’s and cares for 70 girls, which saves the community millions of dollars every year. The cost difference to the community of girls in Esther compared to girls in gaol is about $100,000 per girl. And that is just the care cost. The loss of human value due to recidivism and other negative outcomes that result from imprisonment of young people is immeasurably greater.
The St Emilie’s power bill is now about $45,000 per annum and Ross is proposing that the funds set aside by Dalkeith for the storage shed at St Emilie’s be redirected to a 34kW solar power installation ($29,000) expected to save thousands of dollars to the Foundation every year.
Club Service: (John Bolto/John Murdoch): Tom Langley is converting members from RDU paper copy to electronic as part of our community plastic reduction measures.
John reminded members to reserve November 10th is proposed for Guess Who is Coming to Dinner.
John has a target of 220 guests for the Business Luncheon and is currently seeking about 80 additional attendees in order to achieve that objective.
The Club Service Committee asks that Leave of Absence only apply to absence, of 2 weeks or longer. Shorter periods should be apologies.
Community Service: (Nigel Johnson/Steve Halbert): Have you ordered your bags yet?
Nigel is catching up with Jaap Pol in the near future with a view to joining forces for Cans for Christmas.
Nigel is exploring digital options for the coin collection.
Vocational Service: (Peter Marfleet/Tom Kendall): Peter thanked Dave Smith for organising the Ballet visit which was greatly enjoyed by those who attended.
Peter also advised members that there will be an opportunity on 7th March to twilight sail on the Duyfken (little dove) for a limit of 24 people at a cost of $110 per head. He is chasing expressions of interest.
Foundation and International Service: (Peter Webb/David Smith): No Report.
Membership: (Peter Panek/Lindsay Dry): Peter Panek introduced Bruno Fic from the Rotary Club of North Perth (RCNP). Dalkeith will be joining RCNP on Monday, November 5th (evening before Melbourne Cup) for a Calcutta night at the Mt Lawley Golf Club. The evening begins at 6 pm for 7 pm sit down meal and dress is Melbourne Cup / Cocktail with a “fashions of the field” and the usual accoutrements. Partners are invited (ladies night) and there will be a “call” by Paul McDonald with betting, other charity auctions and entertainment. Club members were asked to volunteer services on the night (sell raffle tickets etc) and donate prizes for the silent auction. Dinner will be the usual “alternate drop”. The cost will be $65 per head and punters buy their own drinks, although the first drink is provided on arrival. The function will be a joint venture between our clubs.
Youth: (Kim Smith/Leon Lorenzen): Kim mentioned that Cadu is still seeking odd jobs, and the club is still seeking a Protection Officer. President David advised members that the Club Protection Officer looks like a (startled) John Lindquist, who made the mistake of sitting in close proximity to, and full view of, the head table.
It was unclear at the end of the exchange if the Club Protection Officer role has been filled. Watch this space.
Kim also reminded members that Richard had emailed all members seeking sponsorship for the Science and Engineering Challenge next year.
