Meeting Notes
21st December 2020
Guest Speaker & Member
Rev. Peter Smith

President Anthony McGrath opened the meeting at 6.30 pm on 21 December 2020. John Thornton OAM lead the Club in a rousing singing of Advance Australia Fair which turned out not to bad and scored an 8/10. Please remember we are singing “…for we are one and free” instead of the old version “…for we are young and free”.

The meeting is still being streamed on Zoom so that you may engage in that manner.
We have a very busy meeting tonight with our AGM formality, presentation of Global Citizenship Award certificates and a Christmas message from our own Rev Peter Smith.

Pres Anthony welcomed our speaker for tonight, our very own Rev Peter Smith, who will be giving us a Christmas message and reflection.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK:
Question: What is the approximate size of Kings Park and when was its name changed and for what occasion?

Answer:  400.6 ha.   Name changed to Kings Park in 1901 to mark the accession of King Edward VII to the British Throne.
Peter Webb was the lucky recipient of the winning card, but only new the Area of the Park.
Jason Van Straalen’s card was then drawn and he knew the rest of the correct answer.

The President, in a magnanimous gesture offered in the spirit of Christmas (and using Club funds), awarded both parties a bottle of wine.

FAMILY AND FRIENDS:
Any Rotarian who has news they would like to share regarding Family or Friends?
President Anthony was not here last week because he was in Brisbane at his son’s graduation ceremony since his son has graduated as a fully-fledged Super Hornet Pilot. President Anthony had the opportunity to partake in a flight simulator for the Super Hornet and was almost sick.
John Mackinnon related that unfortunately our member Brian English is not in a good way and is currently having chemotherapy. Our best wishes go out to both Brian and Fay English.
Craig James advised that his son-in-law, Duncan Watson, has been made a Queens Council in England at a relatively young age. Quite a feat indeed. Well done.

Pres Anthony announced that we have found this program to be mutually beneficial to all concerned and feel it would be a shame that our connection with the graduates of this program should come to an end. With this in mind and on behalf of the DR
I would like to extend an invitation to each of the graduates to become associates of our Club. As an associate, you would keep in contact with the Club via our email system, be able to attend 4 Club meeting per year free of charge and be invited to participate in our various fundraising activities. We would very much welcome your continued involvement with our Club while you remain in WA. If you would like to take up this opportunity, please see me or Kim after the meeting.
