President Anthony McGrath opened the meeting at 6.30 pm on 3 August 2020 with a rousing singing of Advance Australia Fair as lead by John Thornton.
This evening's effort was judged to be “Pretty Good” by the President.

Peter Robinson advised that the month of August was a bonanza month for Birthday’s in the Robinson family, with Birthdays being celebrated across 3 generations

Nokor Tep Hospital will be receiving a 20’ container full of vital medical supplies which is being shipped now.
The Buk Bilong Pikinini Foundation book drive is proceeding well with some 20 boxes of books already received.

OTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Footy Tipping winner Round 9 this week was John Hopkins with 8 wins and a margin of 29 pts. John now leads the tipping on 54 wins with Craig James, but he has
a better margin. Also up there is David Ellis.
According to the President, the people leading the tipping competition are merely demonstrating that they have no understanding of football at all.

PRESIDENTS REPORT: ( Pres Anthony McGrath)
Next week we will be having a Fellowship and Club Forum meeting. The President will present the results of the Club Survey along with a Draft of our Club Strategic
Goals for the year. These will then be discussed, and formally ratified by the Board.
We will also get a report on Greenbatch from Peter Panek. However, the emphasis will be on Fellowship.

The Sergeant served to extract the following fines from members:
A fine was issued for all those who did not disinfect their hands when coming into the building;
The following pleaded guilty; John Saleeba, Gary Dienhoff, Ken Ilett & Steve Halbert.
Leon Lorenzen and all Board Members were fined for agreeing to increase the fines to $5.
Graeme Sansom for having a Business Lunch which extended long into the afternoon.
Richard Ranshaw who only played 9 holes of golf today because it was too cold.
Peter Marfleet and John Martin for being observed out to dinner during the week.
Steve Halbert for accusing the Sergeant of reading Children’s Books when he should have known that he was only looking at the pictures (because he can’t read).
John Martin & Anita Bourke for celebrating their Birthday’s last week but not being present at the meeting.
Wine Table, $5 each. Finally, the Club is making money on the wine prize.

GUEST SPEAKER: ( Mr. Heiko Plange – Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation)
The speaker was introduced by David Ellis.
Heiko is a globally Certified Fund Raising Executive and has extensive experience in managing fundraising and corporate partnership programs.
He has a comprehensive background in developing and implementing strategic marketing and major gifts fundraising, Heiko has worked with health, medical
research, arts, education, and community services.
Previously, he has worked for the Brightwater Care Group, St John of God Health Care, Western Australian Museum Foundation and the Harry Perkins Institute of
Medical Research and is currently Head of Fundraising at the Perth Children's Hospital Foundation.
He is a Fellow of the Fundraising Institute of Australia and a Chuffed.org Community Ambassador.
He is a recipient of several awards, including the inaugural Centre for Social Impact Scholarship awarded by the Qantas Foundation.
Heiko graduated from the University of Western Australia, earning a Bachelor of Commerce in Management and Marketing.
Heiko advised that last Financial year the Foundation provided $8.7M for the Perth Children’s Hospital. The funds are used for medical research, education
& training, equipment, and creating a positive patient & family experience.
Over the past 23 years, the Foundation has provided over $83M and has a forward commitment to provide another $23M for a total of $103M.
Rotary has provided over $700,000 over the past 25 years and so there has been a long association between Rotary and the Foundation.
In particular, the Rotary Club of Mosman Park who run the John Hughes Big Walk has made a substantial contribution to the Foundation.
Obviously, COVID-19 will have a substantial impact on the Foundation’s fundraising efforts.
The first Perth’s Children’s Hospital in WA was established in 1909. It changed its name to Princess Margret Hospital in 1949. The hospital opened as a
community-funded hospital and changed to Government control in 1978 when it became part of WA Health.
In 2018, the all-new Perth Children’s Hospital opened. This hospital is a vast improvement on the old PMH, it has, for example, an emergency department
which is 88% larger than the old hospital, and everything is new throughout the building.
Treatment these days endeavours to keep child patients at home as much as possible and to treat them as day patients. This allows the children to remain
at home with their families and proves to be less stressful on the children.
The Foundation wishes to improve health care and is focusing on 3 areas of Clinical Excellence,
The funding of research Patient experience, including rehabilitation.
The Foundation can only achieve this work due to the great support from the WA community.
The Foundation always ensures that the public money which they receive is spent efficiently. The Foundation does a lot of collaboration with others to get the
maximum benefit.
Governance by the Foundation is extremely important.
The new Perth Children’s Hospital is an incredible facility and one which we can all be proud of.
President Anthony thanked Heiko for his interesting talk about the Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation and as a show of thanks provide Heiko with a Rotary pen.
