Sir John Thornton (OAM) is with us tonight to lead the singing of a rousing chorus of Advance Australia Fair. The Club sang beautifully and scored an 8.5/10. Well done everyone.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK:
Q: Lest we Forget - How many Allied soldiers and how many Australians died at Gallipoli?
A: 44,000 Allied soldiers, including more than 8,700 Australians. Perfectly answered by John Bolto, but there was a suggestion that he had inside knowledge, having set up the presentation this evening. John denied everything.
FAMILY AND FRIENDS:
Any Rotarian who has news they would like to share regarding Family or Friends?
Tim Humphry was delighted to advise that one of his daughters had returned to Perth from Melbourne for the first time since 2019.
John Thornton enthusiastically advised that one of his Grandsons had been selected to play for the West Coast Eagles junior squads and the Club would be informed of the time and location of his games so we can all go and watch.

Charitable Trust: (Russell Hawkins)
The Trust’s portfolio is approaching $1,000,000 which is the Trust's target for available Capital.
In addition, Russell would be receiving wine stocks tomorrow and so has stock to distribute to thirsty members.

There will be a Board meeting this evening at Tim Humphry’s home if that is ok with Tim.

Peter reminded everyone that in order to attend next week’s Anniversary Dinner they need to pay beforehand and to register by email directly to Peter so he can have accurate numbers for the caterers.

Tim advised that the My Home Project was advancing slowly having been held up by the recent State election process.

John informed the Club that Green batch had been placed into liquidation and Rotary was working with the liquidator to preserve our investment.

Other Announcements:
- Footy Tipping Round 4 - John Lindquist Score 7 winners with a margin of 10
- Leaders - Annie Hawkins (28), J Bolto (27), a few Warburtons, and David Ellis (26)
- Richard Ranshaw informed the Club that there was a mass immunisation clinic set up at the Showgrounds, just inside Gate 8 on Ashton Avenue. Richard found it was underutilised and an easy process to navigate and recommended it to members.
PRESIDENTS REPORT: (Pres Anthony McGrath)
- Centennial Ball coming up on 23 April 2021 at the Ritz-Carlton. I am going!
- District Club Officers Training occurred virtually on 28 March 2021. District Assembly will occur virtually on 18 April 2021.
- The Charitable Trust will be donating to Solemen shortly and if any member wishes to donate via the Trust, then they should do so quickly.
SERGEANT’S SESSION: With Sergeant Graeme Sansom and Corporal Hugh Stowell
Fundraising fines were levied on the following victims.
- President Anthony – in celebration of his birthday.
- Footy tipping winners – including John Bolto and John Lindquist.
- Ken Ilett – Recently seen at an Indian restaurant potentially lobbying for the Treasurer's job.
- Wine Table – Thanks to John Bolto.
- Bruce Fiegert – for being an ardent Dockers supporter and for supporting a new head wound.
- Trevor Gorey – as payback from one Sergeant to another.
- John Lindquist – For recently buying a new caravan and now realising that he may need a bigger car to tow it. Great planning John.
- Bruce Jeanes – for displaying his romantic side whilst walking to coffee holding his wife’s hand. Well done, Bruce, a shining example to the rest of us.
- John Martin – for taking 3 attempts this evening to park his wife’s car correctly, even though it is a smaller car than his own. More practice required John.
- Jock Laurie – Jock was accused of retiring too early and thus leaving a bug vacuum in which one cannot find a decent broker anymore.
Craig James stepped forward and rang the Clanger and fined the Sergeant because he was observed to not have participated in this evening’s rendition of the National Anthem, but instead chose to remain seated and was scribbling notes for this evening’s fines session.
Vocational Excellence Award (Pride in Workmanship): (Kevin Jackson)
President Anthony invited Kevin Jackson to speak about the Award and the recipient.
Bret Christian was presented with the plaque and invited to say a few words.

Kevin gave a brief explanation of the Pride in Workmanship awards and noted several recent worthy recipients. To this list, we can now add the name of Mr. Brett Christian. Brett is well known to members as the Owner and Editor of the Post newspaper and author of his recent book, the “Stalking Claremont”.
President Anthony presented Brett with his award and congratulated him on his career and again confirmed that Brett was a well-deserved recipient of the award.
Brett spoke briefly about the joys of running his own newspaper in a style totally different from the bureaucratic style at the West Australian where he first learned his trade. The Post has trained many cadets who have gone on to have notable careers and this has been a great source of pride for Brett.
The Post has an extremely flat management structure and it allows his employees to step up and take responsibility for their roles.
Bret thanked the Club for this honour that has been awarded to him and for the fellowship he has received from our Club.
