President Jonas Edneropened the meeting at 6.30 pm and led everyone in the National Anthem.
President Jonas welcomed the our guest speaker,Dean Arthurell and his assistant. Also welcomed Rotary members Jaap and Margo Poll and Jason van Straalen’s partner.
The meeting commenced with the Guest Speaker, Dean Arthurell from Carnaby’s Crusaders– introduced bySusie Rich.
Dean gave one of the more lively presentations given at RCD with two live black cockatoos stealing the show, one of them making several swoops of the room. The presentation also included some wonderful video footage of baby black cockatoos feeding and leaving the nest on their first flight.
Carnaby’s Crusaders is a registered Not For Profit Charity dedicated to supporting the recovery, breeding and preservation of habitat that supports Western Australia’s native Black Cockatoo species. Their goal is to ensure the survival and promote awareness around the required preservation of natural habitat in order to support our Native Black Cockatoo’s.
One of their important programs is providing Artificial Breeding Tubes on suitable sites. While this is not a long-term solution to the viability of the species and greater effort needs to be made to provide more natural feeding & breeding habitat for the birds.
Decline in numbers has been brought about by the loss of old-growth trees, illegal shooting and non-native bees.

Annual Business Lunch
John Hopkins announced the Annual Business Lunch will be held on Friday, 21 November 2025, and the guest speaker will be Amanda Lacaze, MD for Lynas Rare Earths.Lynas Rare Earths Limited is an Australian publicly listed company headquartered in Perth and the world’s only significant producer of separated rare earth materials outside of China, supplying East Asia, Europe and North America.

John Bolto thanked all the members who planted trees on Saturday and Sunday at Champion Lakes and Helena Valley. It was such a great turnout and thousands of trees were planted.

John Bolto read out the footy tipping scores. Craig James remains in the lead, and Mark Khangure is in 2nd place.

Every Daughter Matters
President Jonas reminded everyone about the heart-rending presentation in May by Darren Reynolds about stopping young girls being kidnapped and sold into prostitution or slavery on the Nepalese border. The Charitable Trust recently gave $9,110 to Every Daughter Matters they have written to thank the Trust for its generous donation.
