QUESTION OF THE WEEK:
The Bungle Bungle Range is located within Purnululu National Park in the Kimberley Region. What does Purnululu mean in English?
Answer: Purnululu means ‘sandstone’.

FAMILY AND FRIENDS:
- It was reported that our past member, Gary Dienhoff, is moving from the hospital into the high-care wing at Alfred Carson this week.
- Anita Bourke introduced her guest, Professor Mark Khangure OAM, a recently retired radiologist who had been head of radiology at Royal Perth Hospital. Professor Khangure is regarded as a pioneer of neuroradiology in Australia and invented coiling for aneurysms. Professor Khangure would like to join the Club.
BIRTHDAYS AND ANNIVERSARIES: The following birthdays and anniversary were announced by Susan Watson:

CLUB AND COMMITTEE REPORTS:
- Anthony McGrath spoke of the Foodbank Volunteer Day, which will be held this Wednesday, July 17, and two other volunteer days later this year.
- John Bolto spoke of the business lunch, which will be held on Friday, August 9. Please book tickets as soon as possible.
- Russell Hawkins thanked the Club members for donating over $96,000 to the Charitable Trust, an extremely generous amount that will allow the Trust to benefit many organisations.
- Russell also announced that he still has a couple of cases of the Semillon left. He also received a young Shiraz, selling for $140 a case, which is very drinkable. Please get in touch with Russell if you would like to order either the Semillon or the Shiraz at russell@chippenham.com.au
- Craig James said that members would be notified shortly of coming dates for events and vocational services visits being organised by the Club Services Committee.
ROTARY MOMENTS:
- Anita Bourke thanked the volunteers who helped with medication sorting last week at SCGH.

- Sixteen members and family attended the St John Ambulance first aid training course in Osborne Park on Saturday morning. The trainer, Chris, had many interesting anecdotes that reinforced the information, and she explained the responses to each scenario well. Thanks to the Club for subsidising the cost of the training. It was a worthwhile exercise, refreshed the knowledge of those attending, and taught us new skills. One of the most valuable pieces of information was downloading the free St John First Responder app onto our phones. If calling an ambulance through the app, it has the exact coordinates of where you are located, where the closest defibrillators are, and valuable first aid guides.

SERGEANT SESSION: The following members were fined:
- John Martin for picking 8 of 9 winners in footy tipping this week (if only he wasn’t so loyal to the Eagles…);
- Ken Ilett for needing lessons from a golf pro;
- Graeme Sansom for winning silver at the hockey tournament in the Netherlands;
- Jill Elias for having a letter published in The West rubbishing the Dockers;
- Susan Watson for coming back from Wimbledon so quickly;
- Kevin Jackson for parking his Maserati under an olive tree on Saturday.

- Ken does not have a background in planning but does know about government processes, having been a head of the department.
- Ken is concerned about the Chellingworth apartments as they will affect traffic, especially the value of properties in the area. He has been seeking knowledge of how the apartment building was approved and to what height and has been blackballed by various State departments, which have made decisions over and above the local council.
- There are plenty of system issues, such as no guiding rules to apply, there is undue influence, bias and political interference.
- Ken has realised that councils are like juries. They decide on issues based on the opinion of the communities, which can vote out the council if it makes decisions that are not in the community's interests. That cannot be said of the planning decision-makers at the State level.
- The system in place is okay, but the administration is wrong.
- Ken encourages everyone to get involved to protect our property rights.
