President John Murdoch opened the meeting at 6.30 pm on 19 June 2023.

John Thornton lead the meeting in singing the National Anthem. It was quite good!

CLUB AND COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Charitable Trust (Russell Hawkins) Russell asked that if thinking of a donation to the Charitable Trust, now was a great time, just before the end of the financial year.

Community Service (Anthony McGrath) Anthony sent an email about volunteering at Foodbank last week to all members. The first date is Friday 7 July. If any member would like to volunteer out at Welshpool that day, please contact Anthony by Wednesday or Thursday of this week, as numbers need to be confirmed with Foodbank as soon as possible. Thanks to those who have already volunteered.

SPEAKER: (Jill Elias) – introduced by Edward Elias

Jill was born in Launceston, Tasmania, and moved to Hobart with her family when aged seven.
She attended the Quaker-run The Friends’ School and then obtained a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Tasmania. She obtained a Diploma of Intellectual Property from the University of Melbourne.
Jill has worked in law firms as a solicitor in Hobart and Melbourne and worked as a corporate lawyer at Australia Post Headquarters and NEC in Melbourne and Western Power and Clough in Perth.
Jill married Michael in Hobart in 1993, and a year later, they moved to Melbourne for eleven years. Michael studied civil engineering at the University of Tasmania and then was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship and studied Economics at Brasenose College at Oxford University.
Their three children, Sam, Annabelle, and Edward, were born in Melbourne.
In 2005, the family moved to Perth.
In 2013, the family relocated to Maputo in Mozambique, an enriching experience that allowed for much travel around southern Africa.

Edward went on a ten week exchange to Saint-Quentin in France when he was 14 years old with the De Wever famille. Jean De Wever then was hosted by the Elias family here. It was a fabulous experience for both families and the Elias family spent a week with the De Wevers in 2020, about a month before the borders closed. The benefits of exchanges affect not only the students involved but families and communities.
Currently, Sam is in his final year of paramedicine, after completing a Bachelor of Commerce at UWA. This year he was awarded a Don Watts Scholarship at Curtin University, which pays for his university fees and sends him to the Essex and Hertfordshire Air Ambulance for six weeks later this year. Annabelle is an Occupational Therapist and is thriving in her first job since graduating. Edward has just completed his Bachelor of Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at UWA. He is also a Lieutenant in the Infantry in the 16^th Battalion of the 13^th Brigade in the Army Reserves. All three children are involved in voluntary work in addition to their regular jobs and have assisted at events for the Rotary Club of Dalkeith.
Edward is completing the Push-Up Challenge, raising funds for Lifeline. The aim of the Challenge is to complete 3,144 push-ups in June, 3,144 representing the number of lives lost to suicide in 2021. Currently, Edward has completed 2,502 push-ups so far. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation to the Challenge, please cut and paste the link below:

Jill is thankful for the assistance that has already been given to her as she takes on the Presidency and will be grateful and appreciative for all the support in the coming year.
