GUEST SPEAKER: ( Mr. Bret Christian - Post Newspaper)

Richard Ranshaw introduced Mr. Christian as being a man well known to our members who read the Post newspaper.

Key points from Bret’s talk follow;

Bret informed the Club that he started the Post in 1977 in direct competition to the West Australian, where he had previously worked, and his father still worked.

The trial of the Claremont Serial killer was a trial like no other. It captivated WA like no other.

The previous police commissioner Karl O'Callaghan stated that this was the WA Police force’s finest hour with the arrest of Bradley Evans.

The story is an epic and a saga that has the deep-seated fear caused by a serial killer.

Where we once felt safe in our city, the fear pervaded our very beings and changed us forever.

We suffered a deep and shared communal grief.

Bradley Robert Edwards probably felt very smug and bulletproof whilst Police were searching for him in the wrong places.
                  Pres. Anthony with Bret
One of the standout things to come from this case was that the Police did not trust the public to share the information that could have solved the crimes in the 1990s.

Despite errors along the way, the capture of Edwards was due to some very clever police work.

President Anthony thanked Bret Christian for a very enlightening talk and question session.
