President David opened the meeting at 6.30pm on 8th April.
With the encouragement of the John Thornton, members sang the National Anthem.
President David advised that tonight’s Guest Speaker is Shandip Abeywickrema, who will tell us about the Square Kilometre Array (SKA). Chris Cole will formally introduce Shandip later.

Charitable Trust:
Russell advised of a $75k donation to the Men’s Shed. He is currently looking for new wine supplies.
Secretary:
Craig gave a report on the District Conference, which was attended by 18 Club members and partners. He was very complimentary of the Scotch College venue and support. In particularly Craig was enthused by the retrospective by past RYE students including Richard Goyder; RYLA and RYPEN. Club members Anita (Cambodia hospital) and Michael (Science & Engineering Challenge) reported on their activities.
Treasurer:
Nil report due to Anthony’s absence.
Attendance:
40 members and 4 guests.
Club Service:
John Murdoch advised of the Anniversary Dinner to be held on 29th April at Dalkeith Nedlands Bowling Club. Guest speaker will be Rick Hart, and catering by Cupid Catering. Board being passed around for attendance, and partners.
John MacKinnon gave notice of the Business Lunch on 3rd October, with guest speaker Kerry Sanderson, past Governor of WA.
Community Service
David Miller reminded members of the Wine Night on 3rd May at Claremont Yacht Club – $60 per person - flyer/invitation has been distributed. Donations are being sought for the silent auction by Brad Noble.
Visit to Esther Foundation in Kalamunda on Saturday 4th May at 1000.
Vocational Service
Peter Marfleet advised that his committee was looking at supporting the Parkinsons WA Walk in September.
Rotary Foundation and International Service
Peter Webb and his committee are investigating projects in SE Asia.
Public Relations

Youth
Kim Smith reported on the Science & Engineering Challenge, which was held last week. Each day 8 schools attended, each with 32 students. Excellent reports received re the organisation of the event. Many thanks to Richard Goreham and Michael Blisset, who organised $50k sponsorship.
A report from Peter Smith advised that EarlyAct will commence at Dalkeith Primary School in Term 2.
Men’s Shed
Trevor thanked the Dalkeith Charitable Trust for their donation, which was increased by Michael Chaney. Work has started on renovations, and members may have access in 4-6 weeks. There will be a meeting with LotteryWest later this week.

Sergeant Trevor Gorey, assisted by Corporals Geoff Cahif and Jock Laurie, extracted the usual fines from the wine table, and birthday celebrants.
