• Cans for Christmas – Anthony McGrath asked everyone to pick up their bags for the Cans for Christmas campaign downstairs. Please let him know if you can take up extra areas. Ideally, please distribute the flyers and bags on Wednesday, 27 November, or the next day, Thursday, 28 November. The collection date of the food is Sunday, 1 December 2024. • ShelterBox – Russell Hawkins showed the meeting the Gold Champion Award given to the Charitable Trust for its support of ShelterBox. The Charitable Trust has been a regular donor to this cause.

• District Governor visit—On Monday, November 25, the District Governor, Pat Schraven, will visit our dinner meeting. Three other Clubs, Freshwater Bay, West Perth, and Mosman Park—Cottesloe, have been invited, too. It would be wonderful to have as many members as possible attend that evening.
• Grandcarers WA – As we did last year, please bring in new toys at the meetings on 4, 11, 18 and 25 November to be given to the grandchildren of Grandcarers at Warwick. Thanks to Mark and Anita for bringing toys to the meeting tonight. It was a generous start. The greatest need for toys is for children aged six and over, no guns please. Please do not wrap the gifts. Many thanks to Richard Ranshaw, who has again obtained a discount for those members who buy the toys at Toyworld Claremont. If toys are purchased from Toyworld Claremont, the shop will keep all the toys bought until the end of November for collection.
• Ronald McDonald House – David Miller reported that ten volunteers visited Ronald McDonald House last Wednesday and cooked dinner for the children and families staying there and those who cannot leave the hospital. The menu included nachos, fried chicken, lamb stew, cakes and fruit salad. The volunteers were Anita Bourke, Ann Bray, Bob Davis, Susie Davis, Jill Elias, Richard Gorham, Mark Khangure, Bethwyn Miller, David Miller and Christine Smith. Thanks to David and Anita for this opportunity at Ronald McDonald House.
SERGEANT SESSION:
The Sergeant fined the following members:
- Kevin Jackson for his incredible recruitment drive at the Men’s Shed;
- Lindsay Dry for his 80th birthday;
- John Murdoch for not being able to make a fire break for five days even when using diesel to try to light the fire;
- Jonas Edner for losing ten kilograms through a dodgy diet that is not recommended;
- Jill Elias for being seen collecting $9.80 in Lotto winnings;
- Anita Bourke for the fabulous potatoes she made at Ronald McDonald House which had people coming back for more and more;
- David Miller for being the cake king;
- Mark Khangure’s meatballs were so delicious that he has been asked by Ikea to supply to it;
- Bob Davis for his fruit salad skills;
- Richard Gorham has been offered a job at Zombrero for his fabulous salsa skills.

- Caroline has lived in Australia for almost two decades. She is originally from Nantes in France. She is a painter and finalist in the 2017 Black Swan Portraiture Prize with a self-portrait of herself at St Tropez.
- Caroline loves Japan and moved to Paris to learn Japanese when she was 18. Subsequently, she lived in Japan for four years.

- Japanese art has greatly influenced French painters. The artists Hiroshige and Hokusai used methods replicated by many French artists over the years.
- One of Caroline’s favourite artists is Claude Monet, a pioneer in the Impressionist movement who followed his heart when painting. Monet’s art has overtones of Japanese influence. He painted pictures in the Oban style, and his waterlilies series features the Japanese garden that he created at Giverny, with the bridge an exact replica of a Japanese bridge.
- Caroline’s other favourite artist is Berthe Morisot. She pioneered women artists and used methods that were not regularly used. She, too, used Japanese techniques to a degree. Berthe was a model for Edouard Manet and married his brother, Eugene. Berthe had a vitality with the brush.
