John thanked Hugh Stowell for arranging the donation of the meat and salads for the Family Barbeque last week. Thanks also for the Men's Shed cooking group. A great night at the Shed.  

           

John reminded members that coaching to install the Services WA app on their phones will be available at the Men's Shed.

           

Tony Chien referred to brochures placed on each table about the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra for Young Artists to be held at the Government House Ballroom.

A/Prof Asha Bowen, Program Head for Infections and Vaccines, and Prof Peter Richmond, Head of Vaccines Trials, both from our Wesfarmers Centre for Vaccines and Infectious Diseases, covered an array of topics related to COVID and Kids, which has become even more important in a climate of rising community transmission on the verge of a new school year.

Many of you have requested the link, so for those who were unable to tune in on the day (or want to watch it again or share with friends) a recording of this webinar is now available online via our YouTube Channel for you to watch at your own convenience.

Telethon Kids Institute will continue to be a source of evidence-based information and we are committed to supporting our community.

Aaron was introduced by Lindsay Dry, who explained the beginning of the ten years association with the Esther Foundation.  In introducing himself, Aaron explained that he started with the Esther Foundation in February last year after an 18-year career in the retail industry in Perth. He also had a Church based community role before joining The Esther Foundation. The current operations of the Foundation were: ·        Working with young women with a crisis background of addiction, homelessness, and domestic violence. ·        Support for women 16 to 36 years – stay for 18 months ·        Substance abuse and self-harm counseling ·        Restoring lives – ongoing support base ·        A six-stage program to rebuild lives with professional support ·        The programs are supported by art, further education, and work experience  Aaron invited Gillian to talk, and she explained a tragic early family life and how Esther Foundation gave her the courage to seek help. She has now gained her self-esteem and works for the Esther Foundation.

He concluded by thanking the Rotary Club of Dalkeith for its support of the Foundation in the early days of its establishment and for the donation of gift cards for the young women that allowed them some small personal luxuries.
