Meeting Notes

11th November 2019 

Club Forum

 

 

 President John opened the meeting at 6.30 pm on 11th November.

John Thornton gave the note for National Anthem.  An excellent rendition followed. 
President John called for 1 minute’s silence as it was Remembrance Day.
John advised that there was no guest speaker as it was a Club Forum.
He had 3 items for discussion and was looking for feedback at the end of the meeting.
A copy of these items will be distributed to each table.

Question of the Week: 
Why was Helen dance chosen to fell the first tree at the founding of Perth?
 
Incorrectly answered by Peter Marfleet and then correctly by Trevor Gorey –Only woman present.
Kim Smith argued convincingly that she only stuck the first blow and then someone else chopped it down!!

Russell Hawkins reminded members that the AGM will be held in 2 weeks and all Club members are invited .
The market has been holding up well.
There are still cases of SSB white wine available for purchase.

Xmas Cocktail Party. RSVP by the end of this week and payment is required in advance.

Rotary Foundation & International Service: (Peter Webb)
Peter reported that he had attended a Rotary Foundation Showcase which he found interesting and informative.

To the wives/partners of club members.

As you may know, Anita is closely involved with helping a women's hospital in Cambodia. The Rotary Club of Dalkeith will hold a Christmas Stall at Claremont Quarter to raise funds and awareness for the Nokor Tep Women's Hospital in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on Saturday 9.30-4 pm December 14th and Sunday 11-2 pm December 15th, 2019.  Beautifully made inexpensive Cambodian silk items (see photo)  made by Tabitha (a sister organisation) will be offered for sale. The profits will go to the hospital in Cambodia. Your generosity is needed to help us run the stall and we will need help with pricing (10 am -12 pm at my home  25 Watkins Rd Dalkeith on Tuesday 10th December)  assessing the site/set up on Tuesday 10th December. Your help is appreciated.

 There will be a coin collection (Pennies from Heaven) 9.30-12 pm on Saturday 14th December- could we ask for your time to make this a success- a notice will be circulated next Monday 18th November.

Holmes a Court collection visit on 10 Oct 2019 (max 30 people).  Invoices for the event have been sent out, $50 per couple.
Kevin Jackson  reported that expects to get some coverage  on Capital Radio
There are only 8 tickets left for the ballet on the 12th December
 
Youth Service: (Kim Smith)
Kim Smith reported that we have 1 applicant for the RYLA Leadership Course and we have room for 2 more applicants.
It is a one week course for 18-25 year old's.
 
Presidents Report: (John Bolto)
Rotary Bendigo Bank Drought Fund - Still ongoing.
 
Give a Feed:
A new initiative started by the Heirisson R C where the money raised -in part through Corporate Sponsors –is given to Foodbank to buy 2500 Xmas Hampers.
The launch of the appeal will be this coming Friday.

Club Forum:
President John Bolto distributed his 3 questions to each table for discussion  with the request for a table Captain to report back on the results of the discussion. 
 
  1. Members choose their own committee and projects, one committee, two projects, projects not necessarily in the same committee.
  2. Dedicated Fund-Raising team for major events, should there be 2 or 3 major events per year
  3. Three project management teams, Youth, Community, and International.
Results:
Item 1 ] A mixed result with comments such as “it is good to be moved around’ ‘ succession is important ‘ ‘don’t overcomplicate ‘
 
Item 2  ] Another mixed result ranging from  ‘current system is ok ‘to  “current system needs reinvigorating"
