FAMILY AND FRIENDS:
• Ann Bray’s husband, Igor Bray, has been awarded an AM in the King’s Birthday Honours. Igor is a strong supporter of our Club, and he is a willing volunteer at the Science and Engineering Challenge each year. Congratulations to Igor on this well-deserved honour.

CLUB AND COMMITTEES:
- Foodbank – Anthony McGrath asked members to sign up for the next Foodbank volunteering day, on Friday 27 June, 8:30am to 1:30pm. Please email Ant if you can volunteer on anty@iinet.net.au
- Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal – Craig James was collecting money tonight for the Red Shield Appeal and has been given $500 just this evening!
- Marmalade – David Miller brought in 40 jars of marmalade tonight and all sold, making $320 for the Club to disperse as donations. Thanks to David for making the marmalade.
- Wine for sale – Russell Hawkins has some wine for sale, please email him for details on russell@chippenham.com.au
- Charitable Trust – Russell reminded members of the Charitable Trust Board that there is a meeting next Tuesday 17 June at 5pm at his office. Russell also asked members to consider donating to the Charitable Trust if they felt so inclined.
- Lift the Lid walk – Anita Bourke asked all members to consider joining an inaugural walk on Sunday 22 June to raise funds for mental health or to donate to the cause if they cannot attend the walk.
- Australian Wildlife Conservancy – John Bolto attended a presentation by AWC last week, the three main points were that mammals have been released outside its fences and are thriving, projects to decrease the number of feral cats are being developed and the number of cane toads is decreasing. It was an interesting presentation, and the AWC is making headway in its quests to increase populations of mammals.
ROTARY MOMENTS:
- John Fawcett Foundation – In March, the Charitable Trust donated $10,000 to the John Fawcett Foundation. We have received thanks from the Foundation, and it has given us a progress report that over the past two months, 2,926 individual have been screened, 1,902 pairs of glasses have been distributed and 72 cataract operations performed.
- Brollie Brigade – Last year, the Charitable Trust donated $10,000 to the Brollie Brigade for the fitout for its new truck. Recently, the Brigade has emailed to give thanks for the donation and to let us know how it is going. The haircuts and showers are going well and the number of locations that the truck can service have increased.

- On My Feet – You may recall that On My Feet gave a presentation to the Club last year and subsequently the Charitable Trust gave the organisation $7,500 which greatly helped it. Last week there was a book launch of stories of those who have benefitted from help from On My Feet, the book was put together by Keegan Craig, the founder of On My Feet, and David de Vos. Vinnie came to us last year to speak, and he was at the book launch, and he has progressed leaps and bounds and is in full-time employment, all due to On My Feet.

- Rotary Foundation – The Club donated $6,3000 to the Rotary Foundation, and we received an email of thanks: “On behalf of The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International, thank you for your generous support. Your contribution funds transformative projects in communities around the world.”
SERGEANT SESSION: The following members were fined by the Sergeant:
- Craig James for being within two points of the best football tippers in Australia;
- John Murdoch for trying to resell marmalade at a highly inflated price;
- David Miller for his kayaking prowess;
- John Bolto for his casual Friday clothing tonight.

- Fishability was started in 2000 by Neville Thomas and it was incorporated in 2003. It is the only programme of its type in Australia.
- Its boat is always fully booked. In the 2023 – 2024 year that were over 13,000 activities which are provided free of charge to participants.
- Through a LotteryWest grant the organisation was able to get a bigger ‘Nev Thomas’ boat.
- Currently it has programmes in Geraldton, Perth, Mandurah, Busselton, Albany and Waroona (freshwater) and Bunbury is in the pipeline as well as in the Pilbara.
- Fishability has a Memorandum of Understanding with the Royal Perth Yacht Club which provides a pen free of charge. In return Fishability shares its boat with Sailability.

- The satisfaction and benefits for the participants are enormous, it may be the only time in their lives that they go fishing and see Perth or their area from the river or the sea. They also learn new skills and have a sense of accomplishment.
- Robyn and Mike made a surprise presentation to President Hugh, the Rotary Club of Dalkeith has been awarded the Chairman’s Award for 2024 for its consistent support of Fishability over many years and the Club was congratulated for all that it does to help the organisation.
