President John Bolto welcomed Rotarians and guests to the meeting.
Special mention to Nigel in the paper again, in fact, 2 mentions for cans 4 Xmas, those who went to the ballet and Anita for her stall at Claremont Quarter.
The national anthem was sung in a reasonable manner because John Thornton kept everyone together.

Q: With the US Antarctic expedition of 1928-29, Commander Richard E Byrd, a Rotarian, flew what Rotary Club’s Flag over the South Pole?
A: Wellington, NZ – Since the people doing the table setting had done a terrible job and failed to deploy any cards it was difficult. Anyway on the strength of that, Albert’s birthday and being Christmas, Pres John and Albert bought all tables a bottle of wine. Thank you!

Guest Speaker: Rev Peter Smith
Peter delivered his traditional Xmas message.
 |
He started with a Brexit joke - A Scot, an Irishman and an Englishman all went to a bar. The Englishman wanted to leave so they all went!
Salient points from Rev Peter’s message included; Xmas has shaped the Western World for the past 2000 years. We need to work hard to preserve this message, culture and tradition. The Xmas story is a True Story. It is NOT a myth. The New Testament writers recorded the historical fact in their own styles. This historical fact has had profound significance.
Tim Winton - God created the world, The world gets lost and then God comes to the World to save us and shows that the calamity will end. It is a story of rescue, for caring for the lowly and most vulnerable. Rotary has a similar culture.
Christmas is a message of The lost – Found.
The price of freedom is eternal vigilance!
Peter the finished with “Hark the Herald Angel”
Merry Xmas!
