President Jason van Straalen opened the  meeting at 6.30 pm on 20th June 2022
 
John Thornton led us in tune for another glorious rendition of Advance Australia Fair.
 
WELCOME to our GUESTS:
No guests tonight.
 
APOLOGIES & LOA:
We have 14 Apologies and 12 LOA with 3 guests hence around 30  people are in attendance tonight.  
 
QUESTION OF THE WEEK:
Q: Who will be RI’s President in 2022-2023 and what is unique about this appointment? 
A: Rotary International President 2022-23 Jennifer Jones Jennifer E. Jones, a member of the Rotary Club of Windsor-Roseland, Ontario, Canada, has been nominated to become Rotary International’s president for 2022-23, a ground-breaking selection that will make her the first woman to hold that office in the organization’s 115-year history.
 
Geoffrey Cahif answered correctly, winning the burden of the wine table

Peter Robertson spoke about the recovery of his mother’s health after her stroke a year ago.

Round fourteen was won by John MacKinnon with 5 wins and a margin of 5.

a)1st Day of the Science and Engineering Challenge Today. Thank you to all the Rotarians who assisted with the setup on Friday. Speak to Michael Bisset if you’re available to assist.
 
b) We’ve filled 2 places for RYLA and have 2 more available if there are any more interested students..
 
 
SERGEANT’S SESSION: (Graeme Samson)
Fines meted out by our Sergeant included.
  
John Martin – Operating a car yard in the front of his house.
Bob Davis – asked Sergeant for tennis balls for his country house’s tennis court.
David Ellis – late for his Sunday walk.
Kent Warburton – Contribution in the newspaper to the local economy.
John Murdoch – get used to getting fined.
Peter Webb – everyone missing your motorbike.
Russell Hawkins – problems with his 8 y/o car.
Bruce Jeanes – Chief bottle washer at science day.
Peter Robertson – Too casually dressed.
Richard Ranshaw – running out of Fruit Cakes.
Wine Table – Also noisy table while people were trying to speak.
 
GUEST SPEAKER: John Murdoch Life Talk
Introduction: Pek Goh .
 
The family tree goes back to 1700’s.
Both sides of the family are Scottish.
His father's family eventually moved from SA to Wagin and eventually Perth.
His father saw active service overseas.
First 10 years of life as an “Army Brat”.
Went to Scotch as a border then UWA to study engineering.
Left UWA to pursue a commercial pilot’s license.
He worked for Ansett and left in 1989 during the pilots’ strike to fly overseas – including 747’s.
Returned to WA after 6 years.
Working for current company now for 27 years.
Kept his interest in rowing and held many senior roles.
Total 47 years in aviation.
3 children- Tim, Lauren and David.
