Meeting Notes
8th January 2024

Club Fellowship

President Jill Elias opened the meeting at 6.30 pm.
The meeting was started by singing the National Anthem.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK:
What is the name of the traditional food served in France on Ephihany?
A Galette des Rois.
Correctly answered by Richard Gorham.

Richard Ranshaw provided a written exam answer as follows:
Epiphany in France: La Galette Des Rois. Deeply rooted in the country’s history, the galette is a puff pastry filled with frangipane, a cream made of custard and ground almonds. Dating back to as early as the fourteenth century, tradition once dictated that a small bean was to be concealed within the dessert. (The accompanying photo shows what is concealed in a modern Galette des Rois.)

Bob Davis informed the meeting that a Galette des Rois could be purchased from Café des Delices on Waratah Avenue.

FAMILY AND FRIENDS:
Unfortunately, John Thornton suffered a stroke on 27 December. He is in Ward D4 Fremantle Hospital and would welcome visitors. One of his sons has said that John’s health is improving though he has problems with his balance and speech occasionally. Visiting hours are 8 am to 8 pm.

ROTARY MOMENTS:
Dear President Elias, President-Elect Stowell, Club Executives, Directors and members,
On behalf of our team, thank you for your welcome, warmth and hospitality on Monday night.
More so, we thank you for seeing the need to make showers available to those without access to their own and for extending your generous support in common cause.
As always, our shower and hair-cutting service last night in Perth was an ever-present reminder that, when offered and available, our service is enthusiastically embraced and used.
We look forward to keeping you appraised of our progress as we embark on the fit-out of the new truck and look forward to continuing our conversations in the New Year.
In the meantime, we extend our best wishes to you and yours for a festive, restive and enjoyable holiday season.
Please also extend our thanks to the team at Nedlands Golf Club for their hospitality and delicious dinner.
Best regards,
Jim on behalf of our team
Brollie Brigade

SERGEANT SESSION: Bob Davis

Bob was press-ganged into being the Sergeant on a mere ten minutes’ warning so the first fine was to President Jill for asking him.
The wine table was fined for correctly answering the Question of the Week without knowing what a Galette des Rois was (with the exception of Kim on the table).
John Martin was fined for being seen out and about enjoying himself.
A whole table was fined for being too virtuous and not attracting any fines until it did. (Ironic.)
Those not attending the barbecue next week were fined.
