President Craig asked members and guests to sing the anthem. John Thornton announced the members would tonight sing the second verse of the national anthem as well as the first. Words to the second verse (below) were on the tables.  John lead off each verse.

Stuart McCoubrie announced his eldest daughter had just given birth to her fourth child and his ninth grandchild.

John Murdoch has achieved the position of number one Starter for the Interstate Rowing Championships Regatta on the weekend.

Leon Lorenzen announced his son George is getting married in South Africa this weekend coming.

Richard Ranshaw announced his daughter has recently had her second child, a boy.

Trevor announced his wife Alicia had won the WA Society of Arts Art Prize award at the recent annual Exhibition of the Society.

Club Secretary’s Report (Trevor Gorey): Toronto voting papers are available to those attending RI conference (your scribe was going but had to cancel due to a clash of commitments).

District Conference 2018 Report:

Anthony reported 22 Dalkeith Rotary Members have registered to attend the Conference, in addition, those members will mostly be accompanied by Partners.  The club should be proud of this achievement.

Club Service: (John Bolto/John Murdoch):    No report.

Community Service: (David Miller/Steve Halbert): David reported that the golf day had raised $2,700 and that John McKinnon’s team won the David Foulkes Trophy.

David stressed the debt of gratitude all members owe to Russell Hawkins for the two cartons of wine that made up the prizes on the day.

David also reminded members to get their friends organised for what promises to be an outstanding wine tasting this year on the 11th May with booking online from next week.  He is also seeking silent auction samples.  He also encouraged members to band together to bid for an evening with Ray Jordan.

Vocational Service: (Peter Marfleet/Kevin Jackson):  Peter reminded members to book for the Fremantle Sea Rescue visit on Monday 23rd April at 4 pm.  Members should book on the Club website.

There are still opportunities for the Carrolup Collection visit.

Sunday 15th April 2 pm … John Curtin Art Gallery … A guided viewing of the Carrolup Collection and a sumptuous afternoon tea (complimentary) with Curator Chris Malcolm. There will also be a visit to the Aboriginal Studies building to look at the spectacular mosaic floor.

Pride of Workmanship Award: Richard Ranshaw came forward and introduced Adrian Boulanger, the Manager of Steve’s Bar and Café in Nedlands, in glowing terms.  Richard who is a regular visitor with his cycling buddies, loves the atmosphere and service and recommended Adrian to members.

President Craig congratulated Adrian on achieving this award which is recognised worldwide as part of the Rotary tradition of honouring vocation.

Foundation and International Service: (Ken Ilett/Gary Dienhoff):

Ken announced that the application for the John Fawcett Foundation bus will be submitted to RI tomorrow.

Public Relations: (Peter Robertson/Albert Deda):

Richard Sudlow reported on the PR committee meeting. The committee will recommend to the Board Wholesale and Retail costs of the Rotary shopping bags which the Club hopes to market Australia wide through other Rotary Clubs.

Membership: (David Ellis/David Smith): David presented Michael with his club polo shirt.

Youth: (Kim Smith/Leon Lorenzen):  Kim reported they had a Committee meeting tonight, with the focus upon accommodation and school requirements for the Brazilian exchange student who arrives on 21st July.

Science and Engineering Challenge: (Richard Gorham) Richard is urgently seeking volunteers and sponsors for the event and those that can assist, please contact Richard (phone 0419 964 131 e-mail Richard.Gorham@iinet.net.au). A board was sent around.

President's Report:

AGM will be held in conjunction with the next club forum on 30th April.

There will be no meeting next week. The next meeting will be on Monday 9 April (immediately following the Conference and the first day of the Science and Engineering Challenge).

Induction:

Trevor Gorey introduced Michael Bisset and PP Tom Kendall read the induction message which recognises that Michael has been chosen to membership in the Rotary Club of Dalkeith because his fellow members believe him to be a leader in his vocation and because he manifests those qualities of head and of heart which fit him to interpret and impart the message of Rotary to those with whom he comes in contact.

Michael will have the vocational classification of “Human Resources”.

Michael was charged to judge himself by the Rotary Four-Way Test of the things he thinks, says or does.

President Craig then declared Michael a member of our club and the world’s newest Rotarian.

Michael will join the Club Service Committee chaired by John Bolto and assisted by John Murdoch.

Sergeant: Sergeant Peter Panek, and Corporals John Lindquist and John McKinnon.

There was celebration of birthdays, anniversaries, the universal wine table, departure tax, arrivals tax, club service celebration, and of April 6th as International Day of Sport for Development and Peace.

Guest Speaker: Stewart Brash introduced Nardine Magill. He explained that Nardine is the State Manager of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA) which is is a broad-based community organisation and the peak national body for prostate cancer in Australia.  Beyond recommending Nardine to the audience he said it best we let her tell us about herself and her worthy charity.

 The PCFA was formed in Sydney in 1996 and grew out of Rotary to become an independent charity.  She grew up in Ireland and her grandfather died of prostate cancer at the age of 63.

The tragedy of the disease is that EARLY DETECTION and INTERVENTION is the KEY to survival.

The 3 core activities of PCFA are:

She reminded members that:

1.     Testing is as simple as an annual blood test to report PSA levels – it may save your life!!

2.     If you have a family history …. AND if you are >40years of age GET TESTED.

3.     If you have a NO family history …. AND if you are >50years of age GET TESTED.

4.     It is never too soon to establish your baseline PSA levels.
