Meeting Notes

Club Forum
 
 
President Jill Elias opened the meeting at 6.30 pm on 31 July 2023.
Welcome to our guests, Mathilda Hontoir, Tom Hilton, and Madeline Godfrey.
 
John Thornton led the meeting in singing the National Anthem, which he praised as jolly good.
 
QUESTION OF THE WEEK:
Which is the better film, Barbie or Oppenheimer, and why?
Answered by Jason van Straalen, but incorrectly, who said he would not be seen at the Barbie movie.
 
FAMILY AND FRIENDS:
  • Jill Elias reported that their youngest child, Edward, graduated from UWA on Friday with a Bachelor of Philosophy, Politics and Economics degree. Also, their oldest child, Sam, flew to England on Saturday to start a six-week student experience with Essex and Herts Air Ambulance Service as part of the Don Watt scholarship he won at Curtin University in his final year of paramedicine.

CLUB AND COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Treasurer (Leon Lorenzen) Leon asked those who had not yet paid to get a wriggle on; otherwise, the Sergeant will be fining the miscreants.
Club Services (Hugh Stowell) Hugh said that the Club Services Committee had met before the meeting and had set the Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner date as Saturday, 28 October. Also, please let Hugh know if someone would take the meeting notes.
Environment Services (John Bolto) John said Treemission has been rescheduled for Friday, 11 August. Please let him know if you can attend. Also please get tables organised and tickets sold for the Business Lunch on Friday 20 October.
 
ROTARY MOMENT: (Jill Elias):
Bienvenue to Mathilda Hontoir, our Rotary Exchange Student who arrived from Belgium last week. She attended the meeting with one of her host parents, Tom Hilton.
 
SERGEANT SESSION: (Trevor Gorey):
Fines were dispensed for the following:
  • John Murdoch for a travel tax.
  • Bob Davis, for his letter published in the newspaper, it was very good, if he does say so himself.
  • The bowlers Kent Warburton, Geoff Cahif, Peter Marfleet and Bruce Fiegert for their successes.
  • All those casually dressed in a cardigan or jumper, even if it is alpaca, Neil Wilkie.
  • President Jill for bragging about her incredible win at the Hampden Hotel quiz night last week.
