Steve advised the Institute’s motto is “Where hope begins”. There is no cure for any neurological disease. The Institute is the oldest research institute in WA. He explained what the Institute does. It has five vertically integrated pillars. Their 2015-19 plan saw a large increase in research staff. They have collaborations in 43 countries. Very strong in genetic research.
David detailed the long history of treatment and research into Parkinson’s Disease. It is possibly caused by toxins ingested through the gut. He explained a possible gut/brain connection. Drugs treat symptoms of the disease but do not cure it. He elaborated on the effect of exercise on the disease’s effects. It slows the decline.
