Charitable Trust: (Russell Hawkins/Tim Humphry): The AGM of the trust will be held on the 19th November and a good roll-up is required in order to change the constitution to comply with the new legislation.
Russell has 10 cases of white wine remaining. It was described as a good drop.
Club Secretary’s Report (Craig James): Board meeting tonight at Nigel’s house.
Club Treasurer’s Report (Anthony McGrath): Accounts will be on the website tomorrow following the Board meeting.
The club has again taken a gold Sponsorship for the Neo Metals golf day and is in need of players.
More sponsors are being sought.

Club Service: (John Bolto / John Murdoch):
John has sent out e-mails to members with tables booked for the Business Lunch to confirm numbers and guest names this week. He also sent out an email giving instructions on how to pay.
John has sent parking details for the event through. He needs the NAMES of attendees no later than early Wednesday.
Richard Ranshaw advised members that he is still seeking orders for fruitcakes. He has already sold the first order of cakes and urged members to order now for Christmas. Don’t miss out! And they are great in the Cans for Christmas collection.
Community Service: (Nigel Johnson/Steve Halbert): There are still 400 bags to sell and a board will go around for the Coin Collection … if members can nominate a time of 9 am to 11 am or 11 am to 1 pm. The Coin Collection is only two weeks away on Saturday 27th October at Claremont Quarter. World Polio day will be Wednesday 24th October.
Members were reminded that Cans for Christmas will be run on the 2nd and 9th December. The golf day will be in April and the Wine Evening in June.
Vocational Service: (Peter Marfleet/Tom Kendall):
He is also sending around a “board” for those who expressed interest in the Duyfken to confirm and pay a deposit.
Foundation and International Service: (Peter Webb/David Smith): President David praised the work done by Anika and handed the floor to her. Anita Bourke advised a pre-screening of Bohemian Rhapsody, at the Windsor to support Polio eradication has been organised for 28th October and she is endeavouring to sell 300 tickets in total. She has tickets with her tonight and is still looking to sell 150 tickets. Membership: (Peter Panek/Lindsay Dry): Peter reported on the committee meeting last week.
Peter reminded members of the North Perth joint meeting Calcutta on the 5th November. He is seeking donations for the raffle.
Peter is seeking 20 volunteers for SUPER SUNDAY 11th November to count dogs, cats, bikes and all manner of things. This will be a significant fundraiser if the volunteers come forward.
Peter reported the new member evening at his place was very successful, with everybody having a lovely evening.
Youth: (Kim Smith/Leon Lorenzen): Kim advised members that Cadu was enjoying his exchange year to the full and is still seeking odd jobs.
Many more sponsorships for the Science and Engineering Challenge next year are being sought and members were reminded what a great cause it is. The early planning is indicating a very successful event will be held. 120 invitations to schools have been sent out and already 22 acceptances are in. The target is to have at least 40 schools and that will require $45,000 in funding.
Kim advised members the club is still seeking applications for Camp Opportunity until 28th October.
Camp Opportunity is a week-long live in camp for special-needs adult “Campers”, between the ages of 18 and 35 years, to team with an able-bodied carer “Buddy” for a week of adventure as they mix and interact in a fun atmosphere to share new friendships and experiences.

Kim advised the committee is investigating involvement in the establishment of an EarlyAct with Dalkeith Primary School and possible involvement in the 4-Way speaking competition.

Public relations: (Kevin Jackson/Jon Steward/John Thornton):
Kevin ask for those who had received invites to the Voiceworks Plus cocktail party to please respond to Maggie Wilde West. Voiceworks PLUS is running a Cocktail Party in combination with Arup and is seeking people to attend.
Kevin also gave a “plug” to the Rotary Learning, describing the enjoyment, knowledge and fellowship benefits he gained from it.
Men’s Shed: (Trevor Gorey) Trevor gave a brief recap of the steering committee activities towards establishing the Show Grounds Men’s Shed. The project is supported by Rotary clubs from West Perth to the Coast: West Perth, Crawley, Western Endeavour, Matilda Bay, Nedlands, Bay View Claremont, Fresh Water bay and ourselves. Peter Panek and Michael Bisset have been working hard and although the progress has been delayed by the Royal Show, Trevor expects to meet with the RAS chief executive in coming weeks to move forward.
President's Report:
President David reminded us to all discuss Rotary with our friends and invite them to attend a meeting at our Club.
A scribe is required to take club meeting notes from 5th November until 27th November to replace long-term Bulletin Bunny Tom Kendall who will be indisposed during that period. This is an opportunity for an entrepreneurial new member to write club history in their own style.
President David advised members that the Christmas Cocktails will be at his place on Saturday 8th December.

PP Craig was fined for disparaging comments about that noblest, generous, principled, gracious and wise of professions; the Engineer. Nigel was reminded that sprinklers are not to run at mid-day while you are away on holidays. Departure Tax was paid by Russell, Peter Panek, Anthony, Jock, and visitor Laurie Hegbold. Kent celebrated his birthday, Bob Davis celebrated being the fastest sailor yet again. The wine table donated and PP Craig was fined additionally for a conflict of interest in writing and answering the question.
President David invited John Murdoch to introduce our guest speaker and DG Charles Johnson. John described Charles as a town planner married to Lorna, and they are both keen golfers and long distance walkers. He looked forward to Charles’ address with interest.
DG Charles acknowledged the traditional owners of the land, PDG Lindsay Dry, ADG Michael hall, District Governance and Insurance Director, Steve Halbert, and Richard Goreham the Engineering Challenge Coordinator.
DG Charles provided context for his talk by addressing the history of Rotary in WA including the establishment of the WA Medical School in 1955 and the Rotary Cord Blood Bank in 2005, both in recognition of major Rotary Milestones (50 years of Rotary and 100 years of Rotary which was established 23rd February 1905). Milestones coming up are 2021 (100 years of Rotary in Australia) and 2030 (125 years of Rotary). We need to mark those milestones with projects of note.
As Rotarians, we can be the catalyst for positive change in clubs, communities, and countries. The future is not where we are going, it is what we create. We must be proud of rotary, wear pins, tell friends why we are in Rotary, what keeps us in Rotary and invite them into Rotary if they express interest. Rotary is an inclusive organisation.
DG Charles advised members that the District College this year will be at Scotch College on 5th and 6th April and will cost about $200. The RI International conference is in Hamburg in Germany on 1st‑5th June. Members were encouraged to attend both conferences.
DG Charles described a range of impressive Rotary International and Rotary Australian projects including Polio Now which will spend $50M of Rotary funds matched by $100M Gates Foundation funds this year.

DG Charles finished by giving his wholehearted support to Rotary Means Business and the lunch meeting to be addressed by Stan Peron on 22nd October. He also spoke about a District Business Directory for Rotarians and the benefits of Rotary training, including public speaking and social media training which can benefit business people as well as Rotary.
Following a brief question and answer session, President David thanked DG Charles for inspiring us and presented our traditional gift of Rotary bag and fruitcake.
