Can’t offer a prize for the correct answer as The Local has now shut as has almost every other café and restaurant in WA, just a few takeaways left open.

Peter Webb has surfaced; he has been on the Vasco de Gama cruise ship for the last few weeks and is now luxuriating on Rottnest for 14 days quarantine. We might see him back in Perth after Easter. He and Brenda are safe and healthy.

President’s Report
The board continue to work hard this week to position the club for success during the suspension of meetings due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Some of the activities this week include.
- Second Weekly Club Bulletin which you are now reading.
- A member support initiative started, members groups have been decided and the member communication team and member support teams have been recruited. Members should start to receive phone calls from their MCT rep this week. As stated previously please don’t be proud, ask for help and we will be glad to assist.
- Strategy subcommittee of the board met and started to look at how we should restart the club when the virus starts to lift its hold on our community and club. Anthony will be working on this over the next few weeks and making some announcements after that.
- The first virtual board meeting was held this evening with a full attendance on Zoom.
- John Saleeba reported back to me this week that Patricia Lavater has resigned from the Esther Foundation recently. The Foundation is operating well and will continue without their two founders in Patricia and Rod.
- Greenbatch notified us today that the Govt has announced that the Container Deposit Scheme kick-off has been delayed due to the COVID-19 regulations. No firm date for kick-off has been set but we are expecting a delay of at least 4-6 months from the original June 1 date.
- The big news for the week, resulting from our virtual board meeting, we plan to hold a virtual club meeting next Monday at 5.30 pm using Zoom. We will have a guest speaker from the Charlies Foundation for Research, https://charliesfoundation.org.au/, to speak about the research initiatives being sponsored by the government to combat COVID-19. A very topical presentation for our members. An invite and a training brief on Zoom will be sent to all members for the meeting. One on One virtual follow up with those members whom we expect may struggle to join using Zoom will be undertaken later this week to try and ensure a high participation rate.

Community Service:
Committee will keep running using virtual meetings.
Tim held his first meeting during the week. The on-hold activities were reviewed and rescheduling will be looked at in the future. The team met using Zoom and declared it a great success with several members subsequently contacting me to express their desire that we try to restart the club meetings using Zoom. All members were fit and healthy.

Committee will manage the communication through bulletin, website and Facebook during the meeting suspension.

Peter is organising the induction of Jason van Straalen in the meeting this Monday.

Youth:
Committee will keep running using virtual meetings.
This week we have an update from Kim Smith on the recent activities of the Youth Committee.
- Rotary Science and Engineering Challenge. This amazing event would have been in progress this week if it was not cancelled. Let's hope it can run later this year.
- Rotary Youth Exchange Inbound. This program has been cancelled for this year.
- Rotary Global Citizen Award Program. First virtual board meeting held for this program this week. Due to the COVID-19 regulations, some of the program activities will be scaled back but mentoring of the participants will continue virtually.

Unfortunately, the interview with the Warden of St Georges College, Ian Hardy, had to be deferred to a later date as neither we nor the Warden was well enough organised to achieve a virtual interview/presentation at present.

Last week the Nedlands Golf Club had to close all its bar and catering facilities.
The chef is producing 4 meals a week, available to members of NGC. You can become a social member for as little as $15/year, apply to the club by phone.
If you don’t wish to become a member then please call one of our club members who is a member of NGC and they will order for you.

Late news from Kevin Jackson.
Valdanos, it is an institution in Dalkeith.
Over the years, we have all eaten here, some of us once a week.
They offer true Italian food.
They are at 133 Waratah Ave, Dalkeith. Tel 93899477.
They are offering their FULL menu. God knows how.
They are still offering to Take Away, 7 nights a week, from 5-7.30.
In fact, tomorrow night is the FIRST time ever they have ever offered food on
a Sunday night.
Kevin is going to use them tomorrow night and a couple of nights a week.
