FAMILY AND FRIENDS:
- Jonas Edner - President Hugh has recently contacted Jonas, who was expecting to be released from the hospital shortly. He is recovering from a burst appendix. Best wishes to Jonas for a speedy recovery.
- Olga Gurina - Olga was Ann Bray’s guest. She is a displaced Ukrainian anti-corruption lawyer and one of the founding members of the Echoes of Ukraine Choir. Olga is a member of the Lions Club and contributes regularly to the Rotary Club of Karrinyup activities, which helped her greatly and welcomed her when she first arrived in Perth. Olga wants to see what other Rotary and service Clubs do in Perth.
- Marg Dienhoff – Bob Davis told us that he had received a letter from Marg Dienhoff thanking the Club for the flowers and card sent to her after the death of her husband and our longstanding member, Gary.
- FORM Gallery and Café – Peter Panek informed the meeting that his son runs the FORM Gallery and Café, previously known as The Goods Shed.
- Bicycles for Humanity - Richard Gorham thanked the club's sponsors for contributing to his ride from Fremantle to Esperance. The cyclists raised $20,000 for Bicycles for Humanity (WA). Well done to Richard and the other riders.

• Melbourne Cup Sweep – John Lindquist will run the Melbourne Cup Sweep at our meeting on Monday 4 November. Please bring your $10 and $20 notes that evening to bet on the race that stops a nation.

Cans for Christmas – Anthony McGrath will start to bring in the items needed for distribution in the Cans for Christmas campaign. Please let him know if you can take up extra areas. The collection date is Sunday, 1 December 2024. Ant’s email is

ROTARY MOMENTS:
• District Governor visit - On Monday, November 25, the District Governor, Pat Schraven, will visit our dinner meeting. Three other Clubs, Freshwater Bay, West Perth, and Mosman Park—Cottesloe, have been invited, too. It would be wonderful if as many members as possible attended that evening.
• Grandcarers WA – As we did last year, please bring in new toys at the meetings on 4, 11, 18 and 25 November to be given to the grandchildren of Grandcarers at Warwick. The greatest need for toys is for children aged six and over; no guns, please. Many thanks to Richard Ranshaw, who has again managed to obtain a discount for those members who buy the toys at Toyworld Claremont. If toys are purchased from Toyworld Claremont, the shop will keep all the toys bought until the end of November for collection.
• Fundraising for World Polio Day – President Hugh thanked all members who had contributed directly to the Project Account and brought coins and notes to the meeting tonight and last week. We have raised about $1,200 so far. Please dig deep tonight for this important cause or transfer to the Project Account (RCD Project Account BSB: 016484 Account no: 100311017). Please put ‘Polio’ and your name in the description line.
SERGEANT SESSION:
The Sergeant fined the following members:
- Senora Nan Walker for an arrival tax;
- Anyone who has accepted a free upgrade on QANTAS – well, well, well, who would have thought so many of our members;
- Uncle Leon says that most people have not contributed to World Polio Day so now is the chance to put that right and the generous Sergeant matched the contributions made;
- David Miller for forgetting to bring white shirts to Ronald McDonald House (an event that was yet to be held but still, any excuse to raise a buck or five);
- Peter Panek for advertising his son’s business.

- CINI (Child In Need India) was established in India fifty years ago. CINI has empowered women and children on an individual and community level to help break the cycle of intergenerational poverty and disadvantage in India. Founded in 1974 by Dr Samir Chaudhuri, a dedicated paediatrician passionate about addressing child malnutrition, CINI began its journey in the villages around Kolkata. Initially, it served as a clinic for malnourished children under five. In 1975, it expanded to provide nutrition rehabilitation for severely malnourished children. The interventions provided by Dr Chaudhuri and Sister Pauline, an Australian nun and nutritionist, start at a basic level and are very effective.
- Jennie is a cofounder of CINI Australia and a GP who works in the Kimberley. Her visit to CINI as a young student influenced her approach to medical work and evolved her belief that education is the basis of sustainable change in health.
- Through the programmes undertaken by CINI, people and communities are empowered. It does not give handouts but teaches communities to find ways to accomplish their aims and want to achieve.

- CINI runs programmes on health and nutrition, training, adolescent empowerment, education, and child protection.
- The desolation of the conditions of some of the women and children is indescribable. CINI can offer hope to communities to structure their futures to more hopeful ones.
