CLUB AND COMMITTEE REPORTS:
- Hugh Stowell spoke about the 40th anniversary dinner on Monday 22 April at Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club, invitations to distributed shortly. The event costs $65 per head which includes a two-course meal and bottled wine on the table. Pre-dinner and other drinks may be bought by credit card or EFTPOS only, no cash. Dress for gentlemen is jacket and tie.
- There will be a tree planting at Genesta Park on Wednesday 24 April at 10am to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Rotary Club of Dalkeith. Afterwards there will be morning tea at the Nedlands Golf Club. Every member is encouraged to come along and please let past members and other friends know as well about the dinner, tree planting and morning tea.
ROTARY MOMENTS:
- Grant Taylor, the Communications Director at Nakuru Hope has written to say “I would just like to personally thank you for the incredible donation that your Rotary Club of Dalkeith Charitable Trust has made to us. It is fantastic and will make a big difference on the ground in Kenya.” The donation of $10,000 will be used for a concrete water tank at Nakuru Hope School and Orphanage.
- Alan Hoffman, President of Grandparents Raising Grandchildren has written “We are deeply grateful to the Rotary Club of Dalkeith Charitable Trust for your incredibly generous recent donation to GRGWA. Your support means the world to us, and it is heart-warming to see the positive impact it will have on our members. Your contribution will be directed towards our Back to Basics Education Fund, a vital resource that is currently in high demand among our members. At GRGWA, we believe that education is the key to a brighter future. Many of our dedicated members, who are raising their grandchildren, faced financial challenges when preparing for the 2024 school year. That’s why we introduced the fund which is aimed at providing essential funding to ensure that grandchildren have the tools and resources they need to succeed academically. Your kindness and compassion will make a significant difference in the lives of those we serve, particularly during these challenging times and will serve to help alleviate some of the burden faced by our members and their families, and for that, we are truly thankful. We cannot thank you enough for your spirit of generosity and your commitment to helping others. Wishing you all the very best, and once again, thank you for your incredible support.” The Charitable Trust gave the sum of $6,000 to GRGWA. In addition, the cleaning items, toys, clothes and food will be taken to GRGWA on Wednesday and thanks to Anita Bourke and to her vast network for contributing to the collection and especially Marion and Geoff Cahif for their generous donations from them and their friends.
- MetSO is sponsored by LotteryWest so that for each concert MetSO can give away 100 tickets for free. Ann Bray has given tickets to GRGWA and it is very grateful as many of the grandchildren have no chance of attending a concert.

- Sumba is at the eastern end of the Indonesian archipelago. The population is 788,000.
- There are no Rotary Clubs in the vicinity. There are, however, NGOs including Fair Future Foundation and Lab Without Walls, which is based in Perth, with which John has been working.
- The work by John and the NGOs is to raise funds to construct clean water and sanitation systems and provide active malaria prevention strategies in East Sumba.
- The project goals are to provide six villages and community centres with water tanks, sanitation facilities, malaria testing and treatment, house spraying, mosquito nets, education and training as required.
- Thank you for your talk, John, and for your work in Sumba, for creating hope in the world.
