ROTARY MOMENTS:
- World Polio Day – As a Club, we are committed to contributing funds to the Rotary International polio fight. Please donate at least the equivalent dinner fee towards this cause to the project account. There is no meeting on 25 September, as it is a public holiday, please consider donating the dinner fee from this date towards the project. Leon reported that a number of members had already donated towards the cause; thank you.
- SOS Orphanage, Botswana – A collection of items will be sent to the SOS Orphanage in Serowe in Botswana by Botala Energy. Please donate good quality second-hand clothes, shoes, boots, books, toys, teddy bears, footballs, sports gear, bicycles, tricycles, and scooters. The collection point is at the Men’s Shed at the Showgrounds. An email with details has been sent to all members. Please contribute before Thursday, 14 September.

Probus – Sandra and Bernard Kessell are members of the Combined Probus Club of Mosman Park. Bernard spoke of the open day to be held on Wednesday 4 October to which our members are invited. Bernard spoke of some of the activities run by Probus.

- Jerry is the West Australian representative on Australian Rotary Health, which was established 42 years ago. He has been the West Australian representative for the past six years and has also been a Rotary District Governor of 9455.
- ARH funds medical research into areas such as cot deaths, breast and bowel cancers, patient care for organ transplant candidates, suicide prevention, and PTSD. ARH funded a study into cot death and as a result of the research recommendations, cot deaths were slashed by 80%.
- Since 2000, ARH has had a mental health emphasis. It is the largest nongovernment funder of mental health research. It has given out $51 million as grants.
- ARH runs Lift the Lid walks to raise funds for mental health initiatives and research.
- ARH has received $86,000 from the Rotary Club of Dalkeith, which is equivalent to two years of research grants.
