Meeting Notes 19th March 2018 - Christine Smith

President Craig James welcomed Rotarians and guests to the Rotary Club of Dalkeith, “the home of Rotary District 9455”.

President Craig asked members and guests to sing the anthem. John Thornton announced the members should begin learning the second verse of the national anthem in order to sing it next week.

Beneath our radiant Southern Cross

We'll toil with hearts and hands;

To make this Commonwealth of ours

Renowned of all the lands;

For those who've come across the seas

We've boundless plains to share;

With courage let us all combine

To Advance Australia Fair.

In joyful strains then let us sing,

Advance Australia Fair.

Guest Speaker: John Bolto introduced Christine Smith.

Originally from France, Christine followed her Australian husband to Western Australia in the late 1980's and in South East Asia for more than 10 years. Her personal experiences in adjusting to foreign countries gave impetus to her studies, research, and passion on cross-cultural adjustment. This passion then further expanded in assisting people to adjust to life transitions and challenges.

Christine is an Associate Certified Coach (ACC), a Registered Nurse and a Yoga instructor with extensive experience in adult education within the field of socio-cultural diversity and health.  She has taught across four WA universities to overseas and local students and has worked with overseas and Australian companies on intercultural development.

Christine defined coaching as the process of unlocking a person’s potential to maximise their performance.  It is about helping them to learn rather than teaching them. A coach is not a counsellor, a psychologist, a teacher or an expert.  A coach does not dwell in the past or focus on a problem.

What coaches do is hold you accountable for the things you say you want to change or challenges you say you want to overcome.

Christine’s talk was an inspirational look at the power of coaching and President Craig thanked he for coming to our club to share it with us.

Christine’s website for more information is:

 http://www.santeplus.life/health-wellbeing-coaching

Christine’s extensive qualifications are listed on the site and include university degrees as well as specialist coaching and health qualifications.
