  • Jill Elias for hosting half the Club members as they came in to vote at John Leckie Pavilion;
  • Nigel Johnson for being at John Leckie Pavilion for longer than Jill each day;

GUEST SPEAKER: Ben McGrath – introduced by Russell Hawkins

  • Flight Lieutenant Ben McGrath has served in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) for the last nine years as a fighter pilot flying the F/A-18F Super Hornet and is currently instructing pilots at Pearce on the Hawk127. Ben has done a tour of duty overseas.
  • Ben’s grandfather flew Lancasters in World War II. Ben had his first taste of wishing to join the RAAF when Ant took him to the Avalon Sky Show when he was young.
  • To enter the RAAF is arduous in itself and Ben did not succeed in his first attempt. He gained his pilot’s licence and flew fire-spotting planes.
  • Once Ben successfully gained entry to the RAAF, he has had a stellar career so far. He was dux of two courses. Not everyone passes these courses and if a pilot fails two flights in a week they could be out of the course.
  • Thanks to Ben for coming to speak to us and we give gratitude for his service for Australia.
