ROTARY MOMENT:

On My Feet - The Charitable Trust gave $10,000 in February to On My Feet which the charity has used for its inaugural men’s eight week programme, with 11 motivated men and their male mentors stepping forward to commit to stronger futures. The new programme was launched on 23 February and will conclude with the Bridges 10K run in April. A press release praises the Charitable Trust for its gold standard partnership with On My Feet:

This $10,000 initiative is proudly supported by the Rotary Club of Dalkeith Charitable Trust, which recognises the immense value of this high-success program and its impact on fitness, employment, wellbeing and personal dignity.

GUEST SPEAKER: Paulina Hobbs, introduced by Geoff Cahif

Ø Paulina has produced a documentary entitled Kalbarri Kid and played it to the meeting. It is a very interesting portrayal of living in Kalbarri and centres on a man called Tony Mouritz. It is a surprising film with unexpected twists.

Ø Tony was born in 1932 and is still alive. He had a harsh upbringing and constantly tried to please his father, who had a gambling addiction and sold Tony’s house from under Tony, leaving him, his wife and his five children homeless.

Ø Paulina spent her childhood in Kalbarri and from the age of 12 worked on the horse ranch run by Tony. Kalbarri Kid was a horse that was untameable but sometimes Tony was able to ride on Kalbarri Kid, he was the only person able to come near the horse.

Ø Thanks to Paulina for her film and presentation.
