FAMILY AND FRIENDS:
Jonas Edner related that the Magic Coat Foundation held its annual ball last weekend at the Perth Convention Centre and it was a sold out event. $152,900 was raised through its silent and live auctions.
Anneike at the Nedlands Golf Club is going backpacking in Europe for two months, we bid her bon voyage. Anneike recently took out with our exchange student, Mathilda, to visit the museum and art gallery.

Club Services (Hugh Stowell) Hugh distributed flyers for the Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner event to be held on Saturday 28 October, the details are below.
ROTARY MOMENT: (Jill Elias)
John Murdoch features in a video made by the University of Newcastle and posted on its Facebook page (and subsequently reposted by our Club) about the success and benefits of the Science and Engineering Challenge.
Six volunteers, John Bolto, John Lindquist, Peter Webb, Lindsay Dry, Ken Ilett and Jill Elias on Friday went to Bannister Creek in Lynwood and helped to plant nearly 2,000 bushes through Treemission. Thanks to John Bolto for organising this event. Without these six volunteers, the event would have been cancelled.
Interplast has asked that its thanks be passed on to the Rotary Club of Dalkeith for its donation. Interplast repairs bodies and rebuilds lives in 17 countries in the Asia Pacific Region through specialist plastic and reconstructive surgery.
SERGEANT SESSION: (Bob Davis)
Fines were dispensed for the following:
Jason van Straalen for raising $30,000 as auctioneer last week for Motor Neurone Association. He can therefore raise more funds now and start with himself.
Geoff Cahif for being mentioned in the Post again for his bowling prowess and not dobbing.
Graeme Sansom for taking his badge home. Offence admitted.
Nigel Johnson for taking his badge on holiday to Cairns. Offence admitted.
Kevin Jackson for being broadcast on the radio on an undisclosed topic.
John Thornton for not declaring whom he will barrack for in the soccer semifinal.
Richard Ranshaw paid $20 into the box to speak of the Matildas, who had not been mentioned so far.
GUEST SPEAKER:Alan Briggs, Treemission – introduced by Geoff Cahif
Treemission was established by Alan in 2008 and was a project between Rotary and the National Trust of Australia.
It was launched by Kerry Sanderson, then Agent General for WA in London, and DK Lee, the Rotary International President, at the 100th RI Convention in Birmingham in 2009.
The main goal of Treemission is to improve the environment, and this is achieved mainly through education via schools, Rotary clubs and community engagement, plantings and soil rehabilitation.
The 7th Rotary goal is the environment; therefore, Rotary members are targeted to help.
In Perth, Treemission works with SERCUL and focuses on the Canning River area.
