John Thornton (OAM) led the singing of a rousing chorus of Advance Australia Fair. The Club’s effort was rated a 7/10.

Trevor (No Idea) Gorey’s card was drawn but he had No Idea.
Kim Smith did have an idea and correctly answered the question.
A: Admiral Sir Charles Fremantle – British Navy - died 25 May 1869.

Richard Ranshaw related the story of how his daughter managed to prang her car into her husband’s car and then phoned Dad to see if he could come and fix them. The answer was apparently….No!

Kent advised that we have 33 members, and 2 guests present for a total of 35 people at our meeting.
CLUB AND COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Club Service: (Peter Panek)
Peter informed the Club that they had each received an email regarding the Perth Entertainment Guide. You now subscribe online and use their App to access their discount vouchers. This year, a single membership provides access across Australia for the price of a WA membership. The old discount books have been discontinued and are no longer available.
Peter also thanked Anita Burke and David Miller for stepping forward and undertaking the Bike Count at 2 of the 4 sites available in Nedlands. Peter will man 2 sites himself.
Peter also reflected how if the club were to organise itself with family and friends, we could easily raise $7,000 doing the bike count at 100 sites. Just saying.
Community Service: (Tim Humphry)
Tim provided early notice that the Community Service Committee will be running a raffle with the prizes being a week’s accommodation in a holiday home down south.
Youth: (Kim Smith)
Kim provided a brief report on the successful Science and Engineering Challenge which his committee ran last week.
Some 40 schools with 1300 students participated.
The University of Newcastle advised that this was the easiest Challenge they took part in and ours is the biggest Challenge outside of NSW.
An economic evaluation was done of the Challenge and it is estimated that the Challenge (in round numbers) raised $30,000 in sponsorship, $20,000 in participation funds from the schools, generated $44,000 in economic value for a total in the vicinity of $100,000.
The challenge utilised 650-man hours of volunteer time.
Kim thanked Michael Bissett and Richard Gorham for their extraordinary efforts to make the Challenge the success that it was.
Many very positive emails have been received from participating schools, which is very encouraging.

- Footy Tipping Round 10 - Pek Goh won with 8 winners and an incredible margin of 1 point!!
- Leaders - Andrew Hogan (67), John Bolto (66), John MacKinnon & Peter Marfleet (64).
- John Bolto reported that based upon his discussions with some of the Sponsors in the Science and Engineering Challenge, they saw real value in the STEM programme.

The Sergeant extracted fines from the following guilty parties.
- Wine Table- obviously
- Peter Panek-because his wife, Jomay, appeared in the Post newspaper, again, and was even quoted in the story this week.
- Win Jones- cracked a mention in the Post for his bowls efforts.
- Nigel Johnson- having lost at the last election has now gone completely red with his clothing attire.
- Gary Dienhoff- for wimping out on today’s golf game due to the inclement weather.
- Ken Ilett- for not wimping out on today’s golf game due to inclement weather.
