- The 40th anniversary dinner will be held on Monday 22 April at 6pm at the Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club. The event costs $65 per head which includes a two-course meal and bottled wine on the table. Pre-dinner and other drinks may be bought by credit card or EFTPOS only, no cash. - There will be a tree planting at Genesta Park, corner of Genesta Crescent and Alexander Road, on Wednesday 24 April at 10am to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Rotary Club of Dalkeith.
- After the tree planting on Wednesday 24 April at about 10:30am there will be morning tea at the Nedlands Golf Club. For catering numbers, to book please cut and paste or press the Trybooking link https://www.trybooking.com/CQWVT or please email Jill on jandmelias@hotmail.com with the numbers attending by Wednesday 17 April. There is no charge for the morning tea.
Members and their partners are encouraged to come along to these events and please let past members and other friends know about the dinner, tree planting and morning tea.
- The City of Nedlands with the Nedlands Returned Services League will be hosting an ANZAC Day Ceremony at 9am on Thursday 25 April. It will be held on the corner of Birdwood Parade and Waratah Avenue. A wreath on behalf of the Rotary Club of Dalkeith will be laid. All members and their families are encouraged to attend. Please note that the immediate streets around the War Memorial will be closed but there will be parking in surrounding streets.
- The Science and Engineering Challenge to be held at the Claremont Showgrounds from Monday 29 April to Friday 3 May. Jonas Edner is organising the volunteers for the event, please contact Jonas if able to assist on email jonas@edner.com.au
- John Bolto reported on the football tipping, won this week by Mike Snell.
- Michael Bisset stated that the annual book drive with six schools on board will commence shortly. This year the schools can pick which four weeks suits them best to collect books, which will go to Piccaninny in Papua New Guinea.
- A 2009 Semillon and a 2010 cabernet merlot have been sourced from down south and are exceptional value at $140 for a dozen. An email has gone out to all members. To order please email Russell Hawkins on russell@chippenham.com.au

- Trevor Gorey has resigned as a member of the Club, due to his commitment as the Deputy Chair of the Australian Men’s Shed Association which is going through a restructure. Thanks to Trevor for his service to the Club in particular and Rotary in general over the years.

Thank you so much for your support at Camp Opportunity 2024.
We had nine Buddies and 12 Campers attend who thoroughly enjoyed the Camp along with all the Committee members who derive so much joy by seeing our Campers and Buddies get to know each other and end up having a fabulous time. We have had several positive comments with a couple of not so positive comments which will be considered for the next Camp.
Your support allowed one Camper to attend the Camp which was greatly received. Camp Opportunity cannot continue without the support from Rotary Clubs such as yours.
Thank you and please continue to support Camp Opportunity and please spread the word on the marvellous effect the week long live in Camp has on all our attendees.

- Anita Bourke arranged for members to attend Ronald McDonald House on Wednesday. There was a tour and then the members helped to cook dinner with resident chef Zi. They dressed in Escoffier outfits, an original idea by Diane Wilcox, the chef hats were sourced by Hugh Stowell and the neck ties by Anita. The chefs worked really efficiently and well together to prepare the evening meal. Anita stated that she was so grateful for the huge volunteering effort put in, which demonstrated all culinary expertise with super results under pressure of time, variety and volume of food! They prepared food for the 47 rooms in the House as well as take away meals for families who cannot leave the hospital. Thank you to Anita for creating this opportunity and to the other volunteers Robyn and Tony Chien, Jonas and Ciaan Edner, Bob Davis, Lindsay Dry, David and Bethwyn Miller.

- Many thanks to Richard Ranshaw for his work selling and promoting Rotary fruit cakes. Each fruit cake sold makes The Rotary Foundation $4 and $8.64 per fruit cake goes to our Club. A donation of $3 to The Rotary Foundation and $9.64 to our Club is the margin for each steamed pudding. This year to date we have bought approximately 350 cakes and 20 steamed puddings. Your work, Richard, is very much appreciated and well done on your fundraising efforts.

- President Jill attended the Rotary Action Day International Dinner on Saturday evening. There were 150 people in attendance including many of the Rotary Exchange Students.

SERGEANT: Jason van Straalen fined the following members:
- Bob Davis for his letter in The Post;
- Mike Snell for winning the footy tipping in a tough week;
- Everyone who supports the Eagles but did not tip them;

- Dulce worked for 21 years at Leeuwin Barracks and for five years at Irwin Barracks where she is now stationed. Her original employer was Spotless and now it is Ventia which provides services to the defence force.

She started in housekeeping and then was asked to work in the afternoons in the kitchen, now she is mainly in the kitchen.

Dulce goes above and beyond what is expected of her. Dulce provides birthday treats and lunches when she hears of a special occasion occurring. She is especially attentive to the Army Cadets and will lend an ear and a kind word when they are feeling low or sad during a camp. She is known as Nona to the Cadets.
- Dulce has a ripple effect on her community. She makes a difference in people’s lives by being such a positive person coupled with her being a giver. She is very professional and efficient and always has a smile for everyone.

As a result of her friendliness, care and attention, Dulce is a notable presence and contributor to the community.

HAROLD ODONG
VOCATIONAL EXCELLENCE AWARD

- Harold is married to Janet and they have four children.
- He has a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science and a Graduate Diploma in Education and a Graduate Diploma in Landcare.
- Harold held political office in Uganda and was a high school teacher in Nairobi in Kenya. He was also a youth counsellor in Uganda and Kenya.
- Many of Harold’s achievements were in Uganda where projects he initiated were implemented and are still helping people today.
- Another great achievement was establishing a gardening business in Australia. Harold is extremely hard working and his reputation for excellence means that he has built up a clientele who are loyal to him.
- Harold is always friendly to everyone he sees and goes above and beyond what is expected of him in his work.
