ROTARY MOMENTS:
Paul Harris Fellowship award - As an annual donor to the Rotary International Foundation, the Rotary Club of Dalkeith has the capacity to nominate members or supporters of Rotary for recognition of their contributions to Rotary.
The acknowledgement comes in the form of Paul Harris Fellowship recognition.

RECIPIENT: CAROLYN BROWNE
In 2025 Carolyn was nominated for a Community Citizens Award by Mark Irwin, the Mayor of the City of Stirling. This was because Carolyn had donated her 500th quilt to the children’s oncology unit at Perth Children’s Hospital and King Edward Hospitals.
She doesn’t want to take any accolades or acknowledgement as she makes them with love and care for those who she knows are going through a very stressful time in the children’s ward with cancer.
Each quilt is exquisitely handmade, with beautiful fabrics and perfectly finished.
Carolyn donates all her time and all the materials.
She's also made quilts for several aged care facilities and she’s receiving this Paul Harris Fellowship award for her unselfish and generous care and love that she’s showing to others.

Today, we are honoured to induct Leighton Chadwick as a new member into the Rotary Club of Dalkeith.
I would like to ask Anita Bourke, your sponsor, to give a brief biography.
Leighton was born in New Zealand, and at age 2, he and his family moved to Margaret River. His father, John, was a member of the Rotary Club of Margaret River for over 40 years. Leighton was a Rotary Exchange Student in Brazil. Leighton and Matilda have been married for 32 years, and they have a daughter who is a lawyer and a son who is an environmental scientist. Leighton graduated in 1991 with the MBBS from UWA and obtained his FRANZCP in 2005. Leighton is a psychiatrist at Hollywood Hospital and specialises in eating disorders, mood disorders and intellectual disability psychiatry.

• You have been chosen for membership in the Rotary Club of Dalkeith, because your fellow members believe you to be a leader in your vocation and community. While membership in Rotary is an honour and privilege, it involves corresponding obligations.
• One of the great privileges of Rotary is fellowship and the mutual confidence which it inspires. Therefore, we commit ourselves to doing our part to make you feel welcome. In return, we expect you to share responsibility for developing closer personal relationships, which will be to our mutual benefit.

ACTING SERGEANT JILL SESSION:
· Richard Gorham for talking over President Jonas;
· Mr Money Bags Bruce Fiegert for winning a four figure sum in Lotto ($12.40);

· Paul Kestell for going to tell the Sergeant about the Acting Sergeant’s letter in the West;
· David Miller for telling a story about “a friend” who reported his car stolen but in fact it was lost at the Bunnings car park;
· Susan Watson for doing circle work in a car park;
· Anthony McGrath for whingeing about the wine table not being taxed;

· Leighton Chadwick for becoming a member and thus being able to be fined. Plus it appealed to the Acting Sergeant’s vanity to say she was the first to fine him.
GUEST SPEAKER: Anita Bourke – introduced by Kevin Jackson
CINI (Child in Need in India) is an organisation which has been running for over 50 years in India. Its aim is to help break the cycle of intergenerational poverty and disadvantage in India. Funds raised encourage empowerment and help women and children to build personal strength and capacity within their community and wider society.
· CINI India’s approach concentrates on creating child friendly communities. This involves families, local government, health services, schools, police and community groups, all committed to respecting, protecting and fulfilling children’s rights in health, nutrition, education and protection from all forms of abuse, exploitation and violence.
·
CINI is undertaking a large scale, international project, called the Ujjan project, to meet community needs, with sustainable, measurable outcomes, focussing on Rotary's areas of focus, encompassing:
Ø disease prevention and treatment child health;
Ø education and literacy;
Ø economic and community development.
· The project will target 700 vulnerable young adults, living in the red-light district and slums in Kolkata, West Bengal, who, without further support and training, will find themselves living in the cycle of poverty and ignorance, leading to intergenerational stasis.
· Dr Jennie Connaughton, who introduced CINI to Australia, is involved with the project and committee members from our Club are Anita, Mark Khangure, Anthony McGrath, David Miller as well as Dr Pushpa PDG (Willetton).
· Seed money is being sought, and District and Global grants are being sought. The Club has pledged $5,000, and the Trust has promised $10,000 once the paperwork has been finalised.
· Congratulations to Anita and her team for leading such an important and life-changing project.
