- Thanks, from Nepal - Dear Tom Langley, Greetings from Nepal! This is Bir Bahadur Lama, a Rotarian, Rotary Club of Kavre-Banepa. I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to you, Rotary Club of Dalkeith, Western Australia for an incredible grant to foster livelihoods and wellbeing of Widowed Mothers with school-age children in Nepal. I would like to inform you all that Creative Didibahini (Sisters) Organization Nepal (CDON) has been implementing evidence-based 'Didibahini Family Support' activities at remote areas in close coordination with local people. And I am also involved to provide technical assistance in the project. This program is really helpful to poor and widowed mothers to generate income through starting their own small business. So, I would like to humbly request you to extend the programs of scale grants to help more poor and widowed mothers.

GUEST SPEAKER: Christine Smith – introduced by Michael Snell

- Christine started by telling us of her accidental journey into yoga in 2014 when her daughter, Melanie, was going to India for a yoga retreat but her friend pulled out so on a month’s notice and not having done yoga before, Christine went in the friend’s place. The course ran for five weeks in Goa in India. Christine and Melanie passed the course and Christine became a yoga instructor.
- Yoga was started over five thousand years ago in India and was introduced to western societies in the nineteenth century. It is spiritual but not religious. ‘Yoga’ means union. Yoga symbolises the joining of the mind, body and consciousness. Yoga teaches physical postures, breathing exercises and meditation techniques.
- The physical benefits of yoga include an increase in flexibility; alleviation of pain; keeping the heart healthy; promoting balance and stability; improving respiratory health; strengthening bones and muscles.
- The mental health benefits of yoga include improving attention span, sleep and emotional well-being; heightening moods; boosting memory; supporting concentration; reducing anxiety and stress.
- Christine finished with some breathing exercises for us to help relieve stress at any time of the day.
- Namaste, Christine, for speaking to us about the practice of yoga.
