Secretary: (Craig James)- Craig encouraged members to donate the price of a dinner ($35) to Polio Day on 24^th October in lieu of the club no longer conducting its annual coin collection for Polio.

           

Treasurer: (Leon Lorenzen)- Reminded members when making payments and donations into the club and project accounts, they should reference their name and purpose of the payment.

           

Club Service: (John Murdoch)- John requested feedback on the table arrangement and orientation which has been adjusted to give better viewing of the lectern and screen.

International Service: (Michael Bissett)- Michael reported 65 ticket sales so far to James Bond. The budget is 160 and a capacity target of 200. Members are urged to buy tickets for themselves and their friends.

Leon reported that ticket sales have been slow and encouraged members to confirm their guests and purchase tickets.

Rotary World Polio Day is 24^th October. Members are encouraged to donate $35 through the club. Every dollar Rotary raises is tripled by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

GUEST SPEAKER: David Cox MD - Curtin Heritage Living

Curtin Heritage Living is a not-for-profit, community organisation that has been providing benevolent services to older members of the western suburbs for over 40 years. Its services range from independent living to aged care services that support residents with specific care needs.

Curtin Heritage Living is an incorporated association and registered charity.

It operates the Wearne Cottesloe and Riversea Mosman Park aged care facilities and retirement villages and is currently expanding its services by acquiring Shine Community Services which provides the western suburbs in-home services for the aged.

David described a brief history of the Wearne site which commenced in the early 20^th century as a convalescent home for typhoid sufferers. Accommodation for the aged was formalised by the establishment in 1979 of Curtin Heritage Living by the four local councils of Cottesloe, Mosman Park, Peppermint Grove and Claremont.

Existing facilities are the 81 bed Wearne Residential Aged Care and 40-bed Riversea Residential Aged Care which specialises in dementia and also 8 independent living units.

The Wearne Cottesloe site is undergoing a major redevelopment which will include a 128-bed residential aged care facility named Marine Views Cottesloe, 76 independent living apartments named Waterfront Cottesloe. and extensive common facilities open to the public.

The cost of the project is $130m being built in two stages over three years. Stage one consisting of the Marine Views Residential Aged Care Facility and the first 20 apartments of Waterfront Cottesloe will be opened in December and stage 2 consisting of the remaining 56 apartments and common facilities will be completed in June 2023.

Marine Views will be operated under the “Small Household” model of 16 rooms for each household. Each household will accommodate the needs of its residents with dedicated staff, dining, lounge and recreation facilities. Room choice will be single and double room suites. The households will share common facilities such as a piano bar, coffee shop, external health and allied health support, beautician, gym, arts and crafts, library, BBQ area, secular chapel and cinema.

The new facilities will be AI and technology savvy including non-invasive behaviour recognition and monitoring.

The Waterfront Independent Living Apartments are convertible if required to operate as care rooms and can then operate under the Residential Aged Care Facility care support.

The apartments will have a pool, gym and the heritage Wearne House will be restored as a common area including lounge, dining, games, cinema and library.

An important philosophy of Curtin Heritage Living is the normalising of aged accommodation by inviting and attracting the general public into the shared facilities.

Available to the public will be a restaurant and coffee shop on Marine Parade, medical centre, hairdresser, art studio and heritage gardens.

 

David answered a number of questions from the floor including some offering holding deposits!
