President Hugh Stowell opened the meeting at 6.30 pm.

Welcome to our speaker, Nell Glover, and guests Alex Tibbitt and Sam Chemuduri from the Australian Wildlife Conservancy and Rajah Senathirajah from the Rotary Club of Freshwater Bay.

The meeting was opened by singing the National Anthem, to the accompaniment of Ann Bray’s violin

QUESTION OF THE WEEK:

After what is the Western Australian town Cervantes named, and what, in turn, does that have to do with a novel?

Answer:  Cervantes is named after a shipwrecked near the town’s location, which was named after the author of Don Quixote, Miguel de Cervantes.

Correctly answered by Nigel Johnson, who also gave us his extra knowledge of the town and the book.
