President Craig James welcomed Rotarians and guests to the Rotary Club of Dalkeith, “the home of Rotary District 9455”. He welcomed our own Peter Webb who will deliver his life talk.
President Craig asked members and guests to sing the anthem. John Thornton announced the members will begin learning the second verse of the national anthem.
Visiting Rotarians and Guests:
Janice Shipway from the Rotary Club of Hilton & Howick from the Natal Midlands in South Africa. Janice presented the Club with her Club’s banner. President Craig reciprocated and also presented Janice with a Fruit Cake. Janice is seeking the Club’s support in applying for an International Grant to support a Teacher Education programme in her District. The request has been passed onto the International Committee for consideration.
John Saleeba introduced his guest, Sabine Duval (nee Beck).
Dave Smith introduced his guest Peter Robinson.
David Ellis introduced his guest Paul Napper.

Former Ambassadorial Scholar Sabine Beck gave a short speech. She has two children and is currently on maternity leave with the younger child. In two years she will finish her speciality and then perhaps back to Australia. She said it was great to see us all again.

President’s Report:
President Craig and David Ellis will be attending a Zone Meeting on Thursday. The club has invited the Rotary Club of Nedlands to a joint meeting on 19th February. Mixed seating will be implemented.
Sergeant: Sergeant Peter Panek
There was celebration of birthdays, anniversaries, the universal wine table, departure tax, arrivals tax, club service celebration. Richard Ranshaw celebrated a grandson arrival.
Sergeant Peter drew members’ attention to the Soleman Teddy Bears Picnic on 11th February at Wireless Park.
Guest Speaker: Richard Sudlow introduced Peter Webb
Peter’s English mum and Australian dad met at Carnarvon Castle in Wales and he was born in Tasmania. He loves cars and owned old Porches. As a boy, he learned to swim and spearfish, and got about in a Kayak. As a teenager, he went to public high school and learned sailing, which became a life‑long passion.
He went to university to become an architect and went to PNG to practice. He stayed on through independence, before completing a town planning course in England, and then returning to Perth. After working in government for 3 years he built a private practice which he recently sold.
His sailing experience has included Sydney to Hobart and all the WA offshore races. He and his partner of 13 years, Brenda enjoys travelling. He has yet to return to visit PNG.
President Craig thanked Peter for his entertaining address to members.
