  •  A private four-hour first aid course will be held for our Club on Saturday, 13 July, 9 am to 1 pm at Osborne Park for Dalkeith members and their partners and families. The Board has agreed to pay $500 towards the course; depending on the numbers, the cost per participant will be worked out. Thirteen members and family have registered to attend already; there is a maximum of 20, but some places still exist. Please let Jill know at jandmelias@hotmail.com if you are interested; please invite partners and friends, too, if they would like to participate.
  •  John Bolto announced that the next Tremission dates to be held at Champion Lakes will be on Saturday, 20 and Sunday, 21 July. Further details will be forthcoming.
  •  The Business Lunch will be held on Friday, 9 August, at the Royal Perth Golf Club in South Perth. This year’s speaker is Paul Holmes a Court. Please start spreading the word and organising your tables. An email promoting the event with a flyer was sent to all members. Please contact John Bolto if you have any questions.
· John Bolto announced the football tipping results. It was a difficult round, and some did well without submitting tips!

ROTARY MOMENTS:
  •  Steve Halbert has been appointed to the national Rotary board as head of insurance. Congratulations to Steve.
  •  John Bolto, Anita Bourke, Kevin Jackson, John Lindquist, Tony Chien, Craig James, and their partners went to Kakadu in May on the Blue Sky trip organised by the Rotary Club of Crawley. John Bolto showed a selection of photos from the trip; the photos were picturesque and evocative of the landscape.

  •  The Charitable Trust provides ongoing funds to the John Fawcett Foundation in Indonesia. Recently, it received a letter of appreciation that reads:
"JFF provides its services free of charge to the poor without considering gender, ethnicity, religion, or politics. Your Club’s support greatly benefits our Foundation as it helps it work towards its long-term goal of providing sight restoration and blindness prevention to people in the lower socio-economic group in Indonesia. We also thank PERDAMI Bali for providing ophthalmologists to work with our team and perform the surgeries and the ONE SIGHT EssilorLuxottica Foundation, which donated glasses. Blindness prevention and cataract surgery is an ongoing challenge in Indonesia, a challenge our Foundation has taken on and will continue. The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) estimated that, in 2020, around 3.7 million Indonesians were blind. With 65%, or nearly 2.4 million, of these needlessly blind with cataracts and 11.5 million moderately to severely visually impaired, the challenge is a big one as the majority of these people are unable to seek specialist medical attention. Our programs were severely curtailed by the COVID-19 pandemic, and we were delighted to be able to return to conducting regular eye programs in Bali and on offshore islands in 2023. The limitations on elective surgeries during the pandemic increased the number of patients awaiting cataract surgery, and this is amplified by the numbers of people in the lower socio-economic group that have grown due to the pandemic’s effects on the economy".
  • President Jill spoke of going with our Rotary Exchange student, Mathilda, to Grandcarers WA in Warwick to drop off a further set of new and donated items. Thanks to Anita Bourke for her generous donations and to Nancy and Janet from the Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation for giving such beautiful new items they cannot use at the PCH.
