Charitable Trust: (Russell Hawkins)
Russell reported that a $10k donation to the Greenbach Foundation has been made to assist in the education of the community regarding plastic re-cycling and going forward with being involved in the container deposit scheme. ( Trust $7,500 Club $2,500).

Youth: (Kim Smith)
- Unfortunately due to current events the decision was taken to cancel the Science & Engineering Challenge. Only very minimal costs have been incurred.
- Earlyact at the Dalkeith Primary School has not continued this year due to them having their own programmes in place. However, we will continue to support the school.
- A good meeting was held with Shenton College, RCD and RC Nedlands to create a three-way partnership. All very positive.
President’s Report: Pres John Bolto Covid 19 Discussion
- Reduce the density of seating, move to either 4 or 5 per table. Ensure hand sanitizer is readily available at the club. Encourage non-contact acknowledgement of other members and guests.
- Members must stay away if they have any Covid-19 symptoms or believe they may have been in contact with someone who was symptomatic and seek appropriate medical advice. This includes inbound 14-day quarantine cases.
- All members that feel at risk by coming to a meeting during the Covid-19 pandemic are encouraged to stay away and there will be no ramifications for any extended absence from the club at this time. We encourage the older members to take the low-risk option as they are most at risk.
- We will look into live streaming the meetings, first trial this week through Facebook for Workplaces. One on one assistance will be provided to all members to be able to access this facility as soon as possible.
- The board will continually review the advice from RI and the Australian Govt and take further actions as appropriate. We believe at some stage meetings will need to be shut down totally for a period of time. During this time we will still try to hold virtual meetings with speakers to provide a social platform for the members to communicate as normal but without personal contact. Tomorrow's meeting will proceed as normal, with no person to person infections in WA to date we feel comfortable continuing with this meeting as planned

Induction of New Member - Mike Snell.
John Lindquist & Trevor Gorey presided over the induction of Mike Snell as a New Members of the Rotary Club of Dalkeith. Trevor spoke highly of Mike being a highly regarded accountant and a great supporter of cricket. A great candidate for the Rotary Club of Dalkeith! Lindquist noted that Mike is an old Scotch Boy to balance things up!

RYLA Attendee - Savannah Seth
Kim Smith introduced Savannah to tell us about his experience at the RYLA camp.
RDC sponsored Savannah and Kirwan at the week-long RYLA camp.
Savannah is a 3rd-year student at Notre Dame University studying International Law amongst other things. She was a David Goldstein scholar.
She noted that the RYLA camp was one of the best things that she has done. Over that week an enormous amount of personal growth was experienced, including leadership skills and team building.
She learnt that there are different types of Leadership; You can lead from behind!
Savannah noted that she has taken a lot away from the RYLA camp and thanked RDC very much for their support of her. Thank You.

Guest Speaker: Ross Kelly - Clontarf Foundation

Ant McGrath introduced Mr Ross Kelly to let us know about the Clontarf Foundation.
Salient points from Ross’s talk are detailed below;

- The Clontarf Foundation is a Not-For-Profit organisation which seeks to get and keep aboriginal boys into school and keep them there.
- Their information indicated that aboriginal boys disengaged from school from 8 years old.
- Without an education, this just keeps “The Gap “ and cycle of disadvantage alive and well.
- Aboriginal males 5x unemployment rate, 14x serious illness rate and makeup 80% of juveniles in gaol.
- The Clontarf Foundation uses the aboriginal boys' passion for Football (AFL & NRL) as a hook to get them and keep them in school. They make the school attractive to build self-esteem.
- It works because they employ very good male role models (1 per 25 students). In many cases, these men are the first real/functional male role models the boys have ever had.
- They work intensely with the boys for at least 5 years - and continue to work with them and be there for them in the long term.
- The idea was the brainchild of Gerard Neesham who was a previous teacher of “difficult” children. He volunteered at Clontarf and saw that because he was an ex-AFL coach the boys wanted to be around him. This led to starting the Clontarf Football Academy.
- One day one 91 students turned up from places far and wide. 89 stayed at school – which was previously unheard of. This quickly meant they started academies in Kalgoorlie and Geraldton.
- Now they are in 130 schools Australia wide, 930 boys in the programme, 460 full-time staff and a turnover of $63 million pa.
- Average attendance at school is 80% and 65% attend 90% of the time.
- It is a generational programme - not a quick fix.
- Criminal offending dramatically reduces if you are in one of these programmes
- The Clontarf Programme costs $7,200 per student pa. Cost to the State in juvenile gaol is $300,000pa. $1 spent in Clontarf gives $8.13 of benefit!
- Currently helping 9,000 boys. Probably 18,000 boys need support. Maybe they will reach that number.
Pres John thanked Ross Kelly for his illuminating talk about his highly successful programme which is making a very positive difference in Australia.
