• Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner event - Craig James thanked Nan Walker and President Hugh for organising this event which was a wonderful occasion and really enjoyed by the hosts and the guests who attended.
|
• District Governor visit—On Monday, November 25, the District Governor, Pat Schraven, will visit our dinner meeting. Three other Clubs, Freshwater Bay, West Perth, and Mosman Park—Cottesloe, have been invited, too. Having as many members as possible attend that evening would be wonderful.
• Cans for Christmas –Please distribute the flyers and bags on Wednesday, November 27, or the next day, Thursday, November 28. The food collection date is Sunday, December 1, 2024. Ant’s email is anty@iinet.net.au for any questions.
• Christmas dinner—On Monday, December 9, we will have our Christmas dinner at the Weld Club. Invitations have been issued by email; please book via Trybooking. Ties are optional for the occasion. Please reach out to past members and partners to invite them to this special event.
• Calendar—Our last meeting for the year will be Monday, 16 December. The first official meeting back in the New Year will be on Monday, 13 January 2025, with the welcome barbecue on Monday, 20 January 2025. There will be an informal meeting at Steve’s on Monday, 6 January 2025, at 6 p.m. There is no need to respond; just attend if you are able.
• Charitable Trust - President Hugh attended two Charitable Trust meetings before the Rotary meeting, a Board meeting and the AGM. He said it was very impressive that over $100,000 has been given out as donations in the past year by the Charitable Trust. President Hugh extolled the hard work of the Charitable Trust members and in particular, he gave special thanks to the Chair, Russell Hawkins, Treasurer Ken Ilett, Secretary Michael Bissett and member Michael Snell who is responsible for the due diligence for the charities requesting funds.
• Grandcarers WA – Next week on Monday, 25 November, is the last chance to bring in toys to be given to the grandchildren of Grandcarers at Warwick. Thanks to those who have bought already at Toyworld Claremont and to Stephanie Fryer-Smith for the generous gifts she brought in tonight. The greatest need for toys is for children aged six and over, no guns please. Please do not wrap the gifts. Many thanks to Richard Ranshaw who has again managed to obtain a discount for those members who buy the toys at Toyworld Claremont. If toys are purchased from Toyworld Claremont, the shop will keep all the bought toys until collection at the end of November.

• MetSO in the Post - This week there is an article published about MetSO’s upcoming concert on Sunday 1 December at 3pm, it made special mention of the sponsorship by the Club of MetSO. Please see the attached flyer for the details of the concert.

• Calendar – Our last meeting for the year will be Monday 16 December. The first official meeting back in the New Year will be Monday 13 January 2025 with the welcome barbecue on Monday 20 January 2025. SERGEANT SESSION: The Sergeant fined the following members:
- Anita Bourke for receiving (but apparently not accepting) proposals for baking Marry Me Chicken at her Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner;
- Richard Ranshaw for asking to borrow a dress to present the birthday flower tonight “so as to channel Susan”;
- David Miller for locking the keys in the car at Riverton whilst kayaking then pretending it was an exciting excursion to the grandchildren when in fact it was to return there to retrieve his car;
- Kevin Jackson for being the most dapper chap at dinner tonight in his blue striped shirt;
- Win Jones for paying by card at the bar then wanting change and then forgot his drink anyway;
- Jonas Edner for celebrating his recovery with a pilgrimage to Singapore and staying at the Shangri La and drinking Singapore Slings at Raffles.

- Jerry is the West Australian representative of Australian Rotary Health. He has been the West Australian representative for the past six years and has also been a Rotary District Governor of 9455. He is a member of the Rotary Club of Scarborough.
- Australian Rotary Health was established 42 years ago, its first project was to fund a study into cot deaths. As a result of the research recommendations, cot deaths were slashed by 80%.
- Australian Rotary Health funds medical research into other areas such as breast and bowel cancers, patient care for organ transplant candidates, suicide prevention and PTSD.
- Since 2000, Australian Rotary Health has focused on mental health. It is the largest nongovernment funder of mental health research and has awarded $51 million in grants.
- Australian Rotary Health runs Lift the Lid walks to raise funds for mental health initiatives and research. It also runs workshops on mental health first aid, which include recognising signs of depression and what to say and not to say to discover if someone is depressed.
- Australian Rotary Health has received $91,160 from the Rotary Club of Dalkeith and the Charitable Trust, equivalent to over two years of research grants.
- Thanks to Jerry for telling us about this important Rotary organisation and its achievements.
