Guest Speaker:    Nat Crewe - Backpacker Medic
John Saleeba introduced Nat and noted that he has had a number of very diverse roles over the course of his life.   Current one is to explain the “Backpacker Medic”.

It is an organisation that Nat and a few people have put together.  Basically, it is a disaster relief organisation which goes to problem areas very shortly after problems occur and provide medical aid very early on in remote locations.  They carry everything with themselves.  Salient points are noted below.  For more information please see their website.
  • The group started after the major Nepal Earthquake, as previously they had spent some time in Nepal.    With the group of friends (7) they went there and provided medical assistance 48 hrs after hitting the ground.  They spent a total of 14 days straight and provided over 400 treatments.
  • Their niche model - they can respond very quickly and are completely self-sufficient and go into very remote locations.
  • In Bangladesh, they sent 3 teams to help the Rohingya refugees.   Together they spent a total of 57 days and provided over 375 treatments
  • 2018 Sulawesi earthquake and tsunami.  Over 4,300 killed, 1,000 injured and 200,000 displaced.
  • They are completely self-funded and are now a registered charity which runs on the smell of an oily rag.  Hence, they would like some funds to come their way at some stage.   In the near future, they are running a training camp in Queensland.

Pres John Bolto thanked Nat for his great work and letting us know about his organisation.  We will certainly consider.           Thank You!
