President Craig James welcomed Rotarians and guests to the Rotary Club of Dalkeith, “the home of Rotary District 9455”.
President Craig welcomed members and guests to the Club Forum this evening. He asked members and guests to sing the anthem. John Thornton announced the members would sing the second verse of the national anthem as well as the first. Words to the second verse (below) were on the tables. John lead off each verse with a pause between and emphasis on the last line of the second verse.

Club Secretary’s Report (Trevor Gorey): no report.
Club Treasurer’s Report (Anthony McGrath): Anthony has a couple of spare money boxes for members to collect their small change.
Club Service: (John Bolto/John Murdoch): No report.
Community Service: (David Miller/Steve Halbert): Bookings for the upcoming wine night are very low to date. Members are requested to get their numbers together as soon as possible. The profit from this function represents a big part of the club’s budgeted fundraising and a significant shortfall will impact severely on our ability to meet our planned giving program.
Vocational Service: (Peter Marfleet/Kevin Jackson): No report.
Foundation and International Service: (Ken Ilett): Ken Ilett reported that Rotary International has posed some follow-up questions on the planned grant for the Bali Eye Clinic.
Membership: (David Ellis): David Ellis reported that a proposed new member was in the process of being vetted.
Youth: (Kim Smith): There will be a committee meeting tonight.
Sergeant: Sergeant Graeme Sansom and Corporal Stuart McCoubrie.
It was with some trepidation from long-standing members with memories of Graeme Sansom’s previous years as Sergeant, that President Craig introduced Graeme as Sergeant for the night. However, in his usual dry and amusing manner, Graeme managed to extract a $2 fine from almost all members present without a murmur of discontent. Included in his victims were a dozen members who received fashion awards for their sartorial crimes during the past year.
Other Announcements:
Win Jones announced that Robin Lim will be the guest speaker on Monday 14th May. Her subject will be Bali Midwifery. Win suggested that this be a Ladies’ night and will ask at the next meeting for a show of hands on likely numbers.
Bruce Jeans reported that the vocational visit to Fremantle Sea Rescue was very interesting and highlighted the serious work that these volunteers put in to keep boat owners safe. Fremantle is the largest volunteer rescue group in Australia.

Club Forum
President Craig opened the meeting to members to bring up any matters of concern or interest to members.
Ron Wilson suggested that the fines sessions were becoming a little serious and business-like, and suggested a return to a fun-based format was in order.
Ray House was concerned at the number of email communications being received from all levels of Rotary.
Richard Ranshaw said that the NGC was considering replacing Cupid Caterers, and asked all members to show support for Cupid by contacting NGC management and expressing a wish that their excellent services be retained.
John Saleeba announced that the funds that the club had committed to the building of a storage shed for the Esther Foundation in Kalamunda would now be redirected to the installation of solar panels instead.
John Thornton suggested that, as members seemed to be vocally challenged by the second verse of the National Anthem, we revert to the singing of the better known first verse only. A show of hands was inconclusive, so President Craig decided we would continue with both verses.
President Craig suggested the club appoint a member to keep a watching brief on the many worthwhile projects carried out by other clubs in this and other districts.
Club Special General Meeting
President Craig adjourned the club meeting and opened a General Meeting of the Club to elect office bearers for the coming year and consider resolutions to alter the Club’s Constitution.

Changes to the Club Constitution
Two motions to repeal the previous constitution and approve amendments to the Constitution were passed on a show of hands.
President Craig then closed the General Meeting and reopened the normal club meeting.
