Dr Tim Keenan AM is an eminent Orthopaedic Surgeon who has spent many years since 2002 working with the Red Cross in numerous countries contributing his time and skills to treat patients and train local personal.

GUEST SPEAKER: Dr Tim Keenan.
Dr. Tim Keenan gave a talk on his time in Afghanistan when the Taliban were in power from 1996 till the American invasion in Dec, 2001as well as before the Taliban took power when the warlords governed the country.

He showed some of the injuries sustained in the fighting at that time and his time at the hospital in Kandahar, which was the only hospital between Iran and Pakistan, so though it was supposed to be only for war injuries, many other civilians came in especially women in labour and children with tetanus, etc.

He showed that the Taliban have strict laws that they enforce, but many of the Taliban are just "normal" and it is the Ministry of vice and virtue who are the main enforcers, He equated them to the SS and Gestapo of the German army.

Pres Jason thanked Tim for his interesting and informative talk and presented him with something unexpected  ... A Rotary Cake and a copy of the latest Rotary Down Under Magazine.
