President David Ellis welcomed Rotarians and guests to the Rotary Club of Dalkeith.
President David welcomed members, and guests to the club meeting this evening; with a special welcome for Guest Singers Voiceworks and Maggie Wilde-West their Director who will together with Gavin Nicklette and Sarah and Ashley will speak about community singing.
President David invited members and guests to sing the anthem.

VISITING ROTARIANS and GUESTS:
Visiting Rotarian from the Rotary Club of Klang in District 3300 (Malaysia), Past President Dr Puravi introduced himself.
Ken Islett introduced his guest, Brad Noble who is considering joining the club.
Chris Cole advised members his friend Laurie Hegvold is away for seven weeks but is keen to consider membership upon his return.

FAMILY AND FRIENDS:
President David reported that Soaks won the WA premier grade Grand Final on Sunday. Newspapers were blissfully unaware.
Anthony McGrath advised members his son Ben, who commenced RAAF pilot training two years ago is graduating this week, including from advanced jet training, and has been stationed to fighters following his graduation, one of only two graduates to achieve that honour.
Neil Wilkie advised members that his daughter Victoria who lives in Manchester England has been accepted into the Hallé Choir, which was founded alongside the Orchestra in 1858 by Sir Charles Hallé. The Choir gives around 15 concerts a year at The Bridgewater Hall and other venues across the UK, appearing with internationally renowned conductors and soloists together with the Hallé and other notable ensembles.
BIRTHDAYS AND ANNIVERSARIES: Bob Davis announced the birthdays and anniversaries as follows:
Sun, 2nd Sept – John Bourke’s Birthday – due to traditional gender bias there was no flower for John!

COMMITTEE REPORTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Charitable Trust: (Russell Hawkins): Apology. President David announced the Trust Board is meeting next Tuesday. Russell also has new wine available and it is a fine drop.
Club Secretary’s Report (Craig James): an apology.
Club Treasurer’s Report (Anthony McGrath): Anthony announced that subscriptions were coming in strongly and e-mails would be sent to any outstanding at the end of August.
President David reminded members that Anthony is seeking gold sponsors for the Cottesloe Gold Day in November this year.
Reports:
Special Report: John Saleeba and Ross Griffin will give an update on the Esther Foundation progress in the coming weeks when Ross is well.
Club Service: (John Bolto/John Murdoch): John reported that his committee had ordained that the wine “attendance incentive” would apply for 48 members present. The committee would review that number every 3 months and in the meantime, it would remain constant.
November 10th is proposed for Guess Who is Coming to Dinner.
The Club Service Committee asks that Leave of Absence only apply to an absence of 2 weeks or longer. Shorter periods should be apologies.
Community Service: (Nigel Johnson/Steve Halbert): Nigel reminded members that the target was for each member to buy 10 Rotary shopping bags to pass around amongst their friends. Those without friends should consider shopping bag enticement to obtain some.
Vocational Service: (Peter Marfleet/Tom Kendall): Peter reminded those booked for the ballet visit this Wednesday that they should be at 139 Whatley Crescent in Maylands before 5 pm.
Foundation and International Service: (Peter Webb/David Smith): No report.
Membership: (Peter Panek/Lindsay Dry): No report.
Youth: (Kim Smith/Leon Lorenzen): Kim reported Holly had recently e-mailed from Switzerland and the text and photos are on the website. The exchange student Carlos is still seeking odd jobs. An article in the Post about him will appear in the next week or two.
Club Protection Officer still required.
Kim also reminded members that Richard had emailed all members seeking sponsorship for the Science and Engineering Challenge next year.
Public relations: (Kevin Jackson/Jon Steward/John Thornton): Kevin has established good relations with the Post and is hopeful of an article next week.
Luna Cinemas is seeking member e-mail addresses and Kevin will send a board around next week seeking a list of those prepared to allow their details to be provided.

PRESIDENTS REPORT:
President David thanked Kent Warburton for yet again running a very successful footy tipping competition that gives us all so much pleasure and this year raised about $2,900.
President David reminded us to all discuss Rotary with our friends and invite them to attend a meeting at our Club.
