Club and Committee Reports
Michael Bisset spoke about the International Committee’s meeting this evening. The Book Drive will be strongly supported by many schools this year, some schools are returning after a small hiatus.
Michael is going to the Rotary International Convention at the end of May in Melbourne. As he is an MCC member, he can take four others into the Melbourne vs Fremantle AFL game on Saturday 27 May at the MCG, please let him know if you are keen.

Anita Bourke gave a presentation of the work that she and numerous Club volunteers have been doing for the past year. She has organised for medical items at SCGH to be sent to Ukraine, Madagascar, Sudan and Somalia, to name just a few of the countries, and under the auspices of organisations such as Doctors for Africa. No medical items are wasted, the equipment is sometimes surplus to requirements or is obsolete at the hospital and anything that cannot be used is sent to the vet hospital. CTEC at UWA is also a recipient of some items, for training purposes. Examples of items sent overseas include gloves, surgical drapes, catheters, bandages, neurological surgical items, gastric tubes, needles of different gauges and pediatric-sized items. A whole basement room has been cleared over the year, when it first started the room was full to overflowing.

Sergeant’s Session - Trevor Gorey
Bob Davis was fined for being at Rotary on Susie’s birthday.
Richard Ranshaw had not paid his wine bill at the golf club.
Mike Snell had the ignominy of being at the bottom of the football tipping ladder last week but this week, he is at the top.
Anita Bourke self-reported as she was to give a presentation which she forgot to bring.
Susan Watson and Jill Elias for having letters published in The West.
Jon Steward for parking his motorcycle where it is allowed.

Speakers - Tanya Hundloe and Troy Morse from Uniting WA – introduced by Richard Ranshaw.

Tanya and Troy spoke about trying to ease the critical situation of homelessness amongst women aged over 55, which is the fastest growing cohort of homelessness. Homelessness can happen for a number of reasons, and it can happen quickly and unexpectedly. They spoke about the reimagining of Wyn Carr House in Fremantle. It was built as a manse in 1923 and was used from 1978 to 2019 as a women’s domestic violence refuge. Similar to the men’s refuge in South Fremantle, the new Wyn Carr House will be built to support women residents for up to 12 months to transition to independent housing. It needs a further $150,000 to complete the project.
Tanya and Troy also spoke about the Tranby Engagement Hub in Aberdeen Street and Koort Boodja and how the organisation helps people to become independent with their own income streams.
If anyone would like to consider a contribution to help Uniting WA get one step closer to the project completion, they can do so hereEvery gift is so valued. Attached is the presentation from the meeting.
