Message from our President Dear Fellow KGMers I am humbled and honored that you have given me the responsibility to lead the largest club in District 3450, the Rotary Club of Kowloon Golden Mile. From our start in 1987 and as we begin our 38th Rotary Year, we can expect to look forward to what will be an exciting and challenging year, embracing changes in keeping with the times, while keeping the spirit of Service above Self well entrenched in all we do. We have set a number of goals this year where I would like to increase our impact and reach on Local projects, by doing more projects and donating extra funds there while including one project related to Mental Health. As we continue our stellar International projects in Philippines, Cambodia and Kenya, I plan to add one or two high impact projects related to Education and Health. I would also like to enlarge the scale of our exceptional Vocational services project which is probably unmatched in the District as it honors the heroes who are at the forefront of our Health, Fire and Security services. Going forward, I propose to have one lunch meeting and one dinner cum fellowship meeting every month and at a more economical venue. Intention is to have some interesting and engaging speakers during the year for the lunch meetings while encouraging greater bonding, camaraderie and informality at the dinner meetings. As the largest club in the District, our visibility and image on social media is not commensurate and this needs to be vastly improved. Members are understandably busy with their work and it is not easy for them to devote much time to Rotary in these challenging times and so a dedicated admin to strengthen this would be needed. To enhance our International outreach, I would like to explore the possibility of having a sister club in a nearby country like Taipei, Vietnam or such. Your new Board has now more younger members and more female members and we are here to serve you and the Club in the best way possible. I welcome ideas and suggestions for improvement of your very own fun club. KGM has gone from strength to strength under every illustrious President from Charter President Chandru Parmanand to Richard Albuquerque and I am committed to work with the Board and each member to recreate the Magic of Rotary! Knowledge Section: Guiding Principles of RotaryThese principles have been developed over the years to provide Rotarians with a strong, common purpose and direction. They serve as a foundation for our relationships with each other and the action we take in the world. Object of RotaryThe Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster: - FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
- SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
- THIRD: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;
- FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
The Four-Way TestThe Four-Way Test is a nonpartisan and nonsectarian ethical guide for Rotarians to use for their personal and professional relationships. The test has been translated into more than 100 languages, and Rotarians recite it at club meetings: Of the things we think, say or do - Is it the TRUTH?
- Is it FAIR to all concerned?
- Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
- Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
