Last week’s rain completely drenched our lunch meeting plans, hopefully, we will be able to get our speaker back for one of the future luncheons. Don't despair, we have our regular lunch and the amazing INDIAN NIGHT to look forward to this week.

Topic of the talk: "They Fell Seven Times and Got Up Eight: What Love, Family and Freedom Look Like for Those Leaving the Red Light Districts."
Background on Janice Chan:
Janice Chan is a Counselling Psychological Therapist specialising in post-trauma therapy
and crisis intervention, and is a seasoned executive in non-profit management.
Her clinical experience includes work with ex-offenders across the London Prisons, before
taking the role of Project Manager at the largest non-profit in Hong Kong working with
survivors of sexual violence.
Prior to leading Sons & Daughters, she was Head of Psychosocial Services at an
organisation that works with asylum seekers, refugees, and victims of trafficking. In addition
to providing therapeutic interventions to survivors, she and her team developed education
programmes on gender-based violence to the public and to frontline professionals.
Her publications aimed to address the gap between academic research and clinical
experience. In a collaboration with the City University of Hong Kong and the Chinese
University, she produced academic research on minority women/girls and gender-based
violence. She also co-authored a toolkit for frontline professionals on strategies to engage
ethnic minorities on issues of gender-based violence.

> Room 711, Rotary's Birthplace
The number 711 has a very special significance for Rotary. Room 711 of the old Unity Building, formerly located at 127 North Dearborn Street in downtown Chicago, Illinois, USA, was the birthplace of Rotary International. That historic room, which was the office of engineer Gus Loehr, was the location of that first meeting when Paul Harris met with several friends to discuss his new idea of a club for professionals and businessmen.
A few Chicago Rotarians set about to preserve the room and restore it to its 1905 authenticity. For years, Room 711 was preserved as a miniature Rotary museum by Rotarians around the world who voluntarily belonged to and contributed annually to the “Paul Harris 711 Club,” which provided funds for leasing, maintenance and preservation. In 1989, the Unity Building was about to be torn down. Members of the 711 Club carefully dismantled the landmark room and placed its contents in storage. There it stayed until 1994, when the recreated Room 711 found a permanent home, and this piece of the Rotary heritage is preserved at the RI World Headquarters in Evanston.
