Rotary Fun Fact

Rotary first established Paul Harris Fellowships in 1957, for contributors of $1,000 to The Rotary Foundation.

*NEW* Knowledge & Fun Facts on Money / Finance / Investment / Stock Market:

This week Charlie Munger, one of the greatest investors of all time, passed away at age 99, only 5 weeks before his 100th birthday. I would like to pay tribute by mentioning some of his famous quotes.

25. “I think that, every time you see the word EBITDA, you should substitute the words "bullshit earnings.”

24. “Mimicking the herd invites regression to the mean (merely average performance).”

23. “A lot of people with high IQs are terrible investors because they’ve got terrible temperaments. And that is why we say that having a certain kind of temperament is more important than brains. You need to keep raw irrational emotion under control. You need patience and discipline and an ability to take losses and adversity without going crazy. You need an ability to not be driven crazy by extreme success.”

22. “All I want to know is where I'm going to die so I'll never go there.”

21. “If you don’t get this elementary, but mildly unnatural, mathematics of elementary probability into your repertoire, then you go through a long life like a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest.”

20. “If something is too hard, we move on to something else. What could be simpler than that?”

19. “The iron rule of nature is: you get what you reward for. If you want ants to come, you put sugar on the floor.”

18. “The best armour of old age is a well spent life perfecting it.”

17. “Envy is a really stupid sin because it’s the only one you could never possibly have any fun at. There’s a lot of pain and no fun. Why would you want to get on that trolley?”

16. “Go to bed smarter than when you woke up.”

15. “Remember that reputation and integrity are your most valuable assets—and can be lost in a heartbeat.”

14. “People calculate too much and think too little.”

13. “I believe in the discipline of mastering the best that other people have ever figured out. I don’t believe in just sitting down and trying to dream it all up yourself. Nobody’s that smart.”

12. “I constantly see people rise in life who are not the smartest, sometimes not even the most diligent, but they are learning machines. They go to bed every night a little wiser than they were when they got up and boy does that help, particularly when you have a long run ahead of you.”

11. “What are the secret of success? -one word answer :"rational”

10. “Develop into a lifelong self-learner through voracious reading; cultivate curiosity and strive to become a little wiser every day.”

9. “We all are learning, modifying, or destroying ideas all the time. Rapid destruction of your ideas when the time is right is one of the most valuable qualities you can acquire. You must force yourself to consider arguments on the other side.”

8. “It takes character to sit with all that cash and to do nothing. I didn’t get top where I am by going after mediocre opportunities.

7. “Acquire worldly wisdom and adjust your behavior accordingly. If your new behavior gives you a little temporary unpopularity with your peer group…then to hell with them.”

6. “There is no better teacher than history in determining the future… There are answers worth billions of dollars in 30$ history book.”

5. “How to find a good spouse? -the best single way is to deserve a good spouse.”

4. “We both (Charlie Munger and Warren Buffett) insist on a lot of time being available almost every day to just sit and think. That is very uncommon in American business. We read and think.”

3. “To get what you want, you have to deserve what you want. The world is not yet a crazy enough place to reward a whole bunch of undeserving people.”

2. “Spend each day trying to be a little wiser than you were when you woke up. Day by day, and at the end of the day-if you live long enough-like most people, you will get out of life what you deserve.”

1. In my whole life, I have known no wise people (over a broad subject matter area) who didn’t read all the time — none, zero. You’d be amazed at how much Warren reads–and at how much I read. My children laugh at me. They think I’m a book with a couple of legs sticking out.”

The Blue Zone Diet
What is the concept of the blue zone?
“Blue Zone” is a non-scientific term given to geographic regions that are home to some of the world's oldest people. It was first used by the author Dan Buettner, who was studying areas of the world in which people live exceptionally long lives. None of the blue zones centenarians the author ever met tried to live to 100. No one said at age 50, “You know what, I’m going to get on that longevity diet and live another 50 years!” They don’t count calories, take vitamins, weigh protein grams, or even read labels. They don’t restrict their food intake—in fact, they all celebrate with food.
What is the Blue Zone Diet... There 11 simple guidelines reflect how the world’s longest-lived people ate for most of their lives. I will post 1 guideline per bulletin, stay tuned. Remember, these are just guidelines, meant to help you, but listen to your body and work out the best diet and exercise routine plan that works best for you.

GO EASY ON FISH

If you must eat fish, fewer than three ounces, up to three times weekly. In most blue zones, people ate some fish but less than you might think—up to three small servings a week. There are other ethical and health considerations involved in including fish in your diet. It makes sense, for example, to select fish that are common and abundant, not threatened by overfishing. In the world’s blue zones, in most cases, the fish being eaten are small, relatively inexpensive fish such as sardines, anchovies, and cod—middle-of-the-food- chain species that are not exposed to the high levels of mercury or other chemicals like PCBs that pollute our gourmet fish supply today.

People in the blue zones don’t overfish the waters like corporate fisheries that threaten to deplete entire species. Blue zones fishermen cannot afford to wreak havoc on the ecosystems they depend on. Again, fish is not a necessary part of a longevity diet but if you must eat seafood elect fish that are common and not threatened by overfishing.
